Instructions for use for Actimaris wound gel, 20 g
ActiMaris wound gel
ActiMaris wound gel consists of basic ionized sea water with sea salt (3.0%), oxychlorite NaOCl (0.2%) and lithium magnesium sodium silicate.Oxychloride and sea salt have a reducing effect on pathogens typical of wounds without damaging the tissue. The decontaminating effect against MRSA/VRE was tested positive. The oxidative action of oxychloride and the hypertonic sea salt solution are also responsible for neutralizing wound odors. The basic pH value of ActiMaris wound gel supports the controlled release of oxygen by providing OH-ions.Sea salt contains sodium chloride (NaCl = 98%) as its main ingredient and 2% other sea salts. The increased salt content of ActiMaris wound gel ensures an optimal hyperosmotic effect, so that peri-wound swelling quickly subsides.
No prescription is required for this product.
Areas of application
ActiMaris wound gel is suitable for cleaning, moistening, decontamination, biofilm dissolution, swelling and physiological debridement to create an optimal microenvironment for:
acute mechanical wounds such as skin lacerations, bite wounds, cuts and abrasions, lacerations and crush wounds as well as postoperative wounds, chronic wounds such as decubitus ulcers, arterio-venous ulcers and diabetic ulcers, necrotic, malodorous wounds and tumor ulcers, including in cavities, thermal and chemical wounds such as 1st to 3rd degree burns, entry portals of catheters and PEG-Probes as well as drainage and venous ulcers.
In addition, ActiMaris wound gel is suitable for local treatment on the skin and mucous membranes in inflammatory and infectious processes as well as for the prevention of infections on the mucous membranes and skin in burns and other types of wounds. It can also be used as a wound filler.
Application
ActiMaris wound gel should be used at room temperature, not above 30 °C.Before applying the wound gel, the wound should be cleaned with ActiMaris wound irrigation solution (Forte or Sensitiv). The wound gel is then generously applied to or into the wound and covered with an inert compress, gauze or similar.
The duration and frequency of application depends on the individual wound conditions and should be carried out until all deposits and necrosis can be easily removed and the wound is visually clean.A dressing change for non-infected wounds can be done every 2 to 3 days, depending on the wound.Whether necrosis and deposits can be removed mechanically also depends on the wound.
In cases where dressings are difficult to remove, it is recommended to moisten the wound dressings with ActiMaris wound irrigation solution (Forte or Sensitiv) for at least 5 minutes until the dressings can be gently loosened without traumatizing the wound surfaces. In the case of thick, adherent fibrinous deposits or necrosis, surgical repair/debridement is primarily recommended. To clean wounds, ActiMaris wound gel can be used in combination with inert dressings or wound dressings.
Ingredients
Aqua purificata, lithium magnesium sodium silicate, sal maris, sodium oxychlorite
Tissue tolerance and biocompatibility
ActiMaris wound gel is suitable for long-term and repeated use when changing dressings, even on irritated skin and mucous membranes. The application is painless and is generally well tolerated by allergy sufferers. There is no fear of inhibiting granulation and epithelialization. The wound gel is rated as dermatologically harmless.
Risks if used improperly
Improper use can result in softened edges of the wound.Cross-contamination between wounds or patients due to incorrect tube/bottle handling.
Side effects
So far, in several years of clinical experience, the following symptoms have only occurred very occasionally: Temporary slight burning sensation in sensitive wounds.
Contraindications
Since allergies can never be ruled out, ActiMaris wound irrigation solutions or ActiMaris wound gel should not be used if you have known allergies or are suspected of having an allergy to one of the ingredients.
Application limitations
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: There is no evidence of genotoxicity, carcinogenicity or embryotoxic effects of the ingredients. However, due to a lack of studies and long-term experience in pregnant and breastfeeding women, ActiMaris Wundgel should only be used in these cases after a careful medical benefit-risk assessment.
Infants and small children: Due to insufficient long-term experience, ActiMaris Wundgel should only be used in these cases after a careful medical benefit-risk assessment.
Interactions
As a bio-physical complex, ActiMaris wound gel has an energetic and oxidizing effect due to its content of ROS-substances, so that a simultaneous combination with other local, active substances and/or interactive wound dressings is generally not necessary.Contact with non-precious metals should be avoided. After using ActiMaris wound gel, the wound can be covered with modern wound dressings. There is clinical evidence of good tolerability with modern wound dressings such as silver wound dressings as well as with inert, non-active dressings and wound dressings such as compresses, gauzes, cushions, sponges, gels, hydrofibres, alginates, hydrocolloids and the like. The simultaneous use of the ActiMaris wound irrigation solutions (Sensitiv and Forte) with the ActiMaris wound gel is possible and sensible.
