Carmenthin® is a herbal medicine that helps with digestive problems such as flatulence, a feeling of fullness and mild cramps in the gastrointestinal area.It is suitable for adults and teenagers aged 12 and over.The enteric-coated soft capsules contain peppermint oil and caraway oil as active ingredients.No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

The enteric-coated soft capsules from Carmenthin® are designed to withstand gastric juice and only release the active ingredients in the intestines.This protects the stomach and usually prevents annoying belching.The active ingredients peppermint oil and caraway oil have a targeted effect on digestive problems.Peppermint oil has an antispasmodic and pain-relieving effect, while caraway oil has a deflating effect and inhibits gas formation.

The combination of peppermint oil and caraway oil in Carmenthin® is highly dosed.For comparison: the daily dose of 2 capsules corresponds to around 73 cups of peppermint and caraway tea, i.e. around 11 liters.Carmenthin® is well tolerated and can also be taken over longer periods of time.When taken over a long period of time, it calms the overstimulated gastrointestinal area and provides lasting relief from unpleasant symptoms.

Area of application

Carmenthin® is used for dyspeptic complaints, especially mild cramps in the gastrointestinal area, flatulence and a feeling of fullness.It offers an effective and well-tolerated solution for functional gastrointestinal disorders, which often have no organic cause.

Each enteric-coated soft capsule of Carmenthin® contains 90 mg of peppermint oil and 50 mg of caraway oil as active ingredients.The other ingredients are gelatin polysuccinate, glycerol 85%, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, glycerol monostearate 40-55, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1) (Ph. Eur.), medium-chain triglycerides, sodium dodecyl sulfate and sorbitol (Ph. Eur.).

Contraindications

Carmenthin® must not be taken if you are known to be hypersensitive to peppermint, caraway, other umbelliferous plants or any of the other ingredients of the drug.The product should also not be used if you have low stomach acid production, liver disease, gallstones, inflammatory diseases in the biliary tract or other biliary diseases.

Dosage

The recommended dosage of Carmenthin® is 1 capsule twice a day, in the morning and at lunchtime, at least 30 minutes before meals.The capsules can also be taken without a subsequent meal.The first effect can be felt after 1-1.5 hours, as soon as the enteric-coated capsule has dissolved in the intestine.

Intake

The capsules are swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, such as a glass of water.They must be swallowed whole to avoid premature release of the active ingredient, which could cause local irritation in the mouth and esophagus.

Patient information

If you have stomach and intestinal problems that last longer than a week or recur periodically, you should see a doctor.Carmenthin® is not suitable for children under 12 years.The medicine contains 12 mg sorbitol per soft capsule and is almost sodium-free.

Pregnancy

The safety of Carmenthin® during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been sufficiently investigated.It is therefore not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
