ODM 5 Eye drops have been specially developed for the treatment of corneal edema.They help improve the quality of vision by removing excess fluid from the cornea with 5% sodium chloride (NaCl).The product also contains 0.15% hyaluronic acid, which protects irritated calluses.Another advantage is that the eye drops are free of preservatives.

What is corneal edema?

Corneal edema describes the accumulation of water in the cornea, causing swelling and clouding.The causes can be varied, including dystrophies in which corneal cells are destroyed and chronic edema occurs.Injuries or surgical procedures, such as cataract surgery, can also cause corneal edema.Those affected often experience symptoms such as blurred vision, sensitivity to light, halos around light sources, loss of vision, watery eyes and pain.

How ODM works 5

ODM 5 is a hyperosmolar eye drop solution that removes excess fluid from the cornea through osmotic action.This temporarily restores normal hydration to the cornea and improves the quality of vision.The product is free of preservatives and contains 0.15% hyaluronic acid, which protects irritated calluses and promotes wound healing.

Application of ODM 5

You should wash your hands thoroughly before use.Tilt your head back and hold the drip opening over the eye to be treated.Using the index finger of one hand, gently pull down the lower eyelid.Depending on your doctor's recommendation, add 1 - 2 drops into the lower conjunctival sac 4 times per day.Be careful not to touch the dropper tip with your eye or fingers.Then keep your eye closed for 1 - 2 minutes.Any residual drops on the dropper tip can be shaken off with a quick hand movement.Replace the protective cap on the bottle after each use.Contact lenses should be removed before treatment as ODM 5 is not compatible with contact lenses.It is not necessary to rinse out the eye drops after use.

Active principle of ODM 5

The active principle of ODM 5 is based on osmosis.A difference in concentration between two substances is compensated for by diffusion.In this case, part of the water stored in the cornea diffuses into the tear film, which has a higher concentration of salts (NaCl) due to the addition of ODM 5.As a result, the excess water flows away through the tear duct and the cornea is temporarily supplied with normal moisture, which improves the quality of vision.
