PLENVU - Bowel cleansing prior to clinical procedures
PLENVU® is a medicinal product for bowel cleansing prior to clinical procedures that require a clean bowel.It is approved for use in adults aged 18 years and older. PLENVU®, a powder for the preparation of an oral solution, contains a combination of the active ingredients macrogol 3350, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, and potassium chloride, as well as ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate.No prescription is required for this product.
Therapeutic indication
PLENVU® is used as a laxative to cleanse the bowel prior to an upcoming examination that requires a clean bowel.Its use is necessary to ensure a successful colonoscopy and an accurate diagnosis.
Mechanism of action
PLENVU® is a powder used to prepare a bowel-cleansing solution.The first dose consists of one mango-flavored sachet.The second dose consists of two sachets that combine to produce a fruit punch flavor.When the powder is dissolved in water and consumed, it flushes the bowel clean.The desired effect of PLENVU® is the production of watery stools, thereby achieving efficient bowel cleansing.
Active substances / Constituents / Ingredients
PLENVU® contains the following active substances and constituents:
Dose 1 sachet:
100 g macrogol 3350
9 g sodium sulfate
2 g sodium chloride
1 g potassium chloride
The 500 ml solution of Dose 1 has the following electrolyte concentrations:
Sodium 160.9 mmol/500 ml
Sulfate 63.4 mmol/500 ml
Chloride 47.6 mmol/500 ml
Potassium 13.3 mmol/500 ml
Dose 1 also contains 0.79 g sucralose (E955).
Dose 2 (sachets A and B):
Sachet A:
40 g macrogol 3350
3.2 g sodium chloride
1.2 g potassium chloride
Sachet B:
48.11 g sodium ascorbate
7.54 g ascorbic acid
The 500 ml solution of Dose 2 (prepared from sachets A and B) has the following electrolyte concentrations:
Sodium 297.6 mmol/500 ml
Ascorbate 285.7 mmol/500 ml
Chloride 70.9 mmol/500 ml
Potassium 16.1 mmol/500 ml
Dose 2 (sachet A) also contains 0.88 g aspartame (E951).
The other ingredients are:
Encapsulated citric acid contains citric acid (E330) and maltodextrin (E1400).
Mango flavour contains glycerol (E422), flavouring preparations, acacia gum (E414), maltodextrin (E1400) and nature-identical flavouring substances.
Fruit punch flavour contains flavouring preparations, acacia gum (E414), maltodextrin (E1400) and nature-identical flavouring substances.
Contraindications
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.The medicine should also not be used in cases of blockage in the digestive tract, perforation of the digestive tract wall, intestinal obstruction, delayed gastric emptying, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, or acute dilation of the colon.
Dosage
Always take this medicine exactly as described or as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
If you have taken more of the laxative than you should, you may experience severe diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration.Drink plenty of fluids.If you are concerned, contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency department immediately.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you notice and contact your doctor or pharmacist before the clinical examination.It is important that you have enough time to complete the course of treatment to ensure your bowel is completely empty at least 2 hours before the clinical examination.

Administration
Read the package leaflet carefully before taking this preparation.You need to know when to take the preparation, how to prepare it, how to drink it, and what effects to expect.
Administration must be completed prior to the clinical procedure.The product may be taken as a split dose.Dose 1 is taken on the evening before the clinical examination and Dose 2 early in the morning on the day of the examination; alternatively, Dose 1 and Dose 2 are taken on the morning of the examination, or Dose 1 and Dose 2 are taken on the evening before the examination.There should be an interval of at least one hour between the intake of Dose 1 and Dose 2.
You must not eat any solid food during or after taking the medicine until after the examination.
Drink dose 1 within 30 minutes.Try drinking a glass of it every 10 to 15 minutes.In the 30 minutes afterwards, drink another 500 ml of clear liquid.Water, clear soup, diluted syrup, clear fruit juice (without pulp), herbal tea, black tea or coffee (without milk) are suitable.
Prepare the dose 2 solution at the prescribed time and drink it within 30 minutes.In the 30 minutes afterwards, drink another 500 ml of clear liquid.
You may drink additional clear liquids before, during and after dosing, but you must stop drinking 1-2 hours before the clinical examination.Drinking clear liquids helps prevent the body from becoming dehydrated.
As soon as you start taking it, you should be near a toilet.Watery stools will soon begin.This is completely normal and indicates that the solution is working.Bloating in the gastrointestinal area may occur before the first bowel movement.If you follow these instructions, your intestines will be cleansed and you will help ensure that the examination can be carried out successfully.Please allow enough time to travel to your colonoscopy after your bowel movements have subsided.
Patient information
You should tell your doctor if you have any of the following: if you have heart problems and/or irregular heart rhythms, if you have kidney problems and/or dehydration, if you have stomach or intestinal problems, including intestinal inflammation, if you have difficulty or discomfort swallowing liquids, if you have high or low electrolyte levels, or if you have other medical conditions.
In patients with impaired consciousness, the preparation should only be used under medical supervision.If you are in poor general health or are suffering from a serious illness, you should pay particular attention to possible side effects.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The medicine is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age.
The medicine has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
Pregnancy
There are no data on use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, therefore use is not recommended.The preparation should only be used if the doctor considers it absolutely necessary.If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before use.
