Instructions for use for Pollival eye drops with azelastine, 10 ml

Area of application

Pollival 0.5 mg/ml eye drops solution is a medicine used to treat and prevent allergic eye problems. It can help with symptoms such as burning eyes, allergic conjunctivitis, and acute or chronic conjunctivitis. The product is suitable for adults and children aged 4 and over for seasonal allergic conjunctivitis caused by hay fever. For non-seasonal allergic conjunctivitis caused by allergens such as house dust mites or animal dander, the medicine can be used in adults and children aged 12 and over. However, it is not suitable for treating eye infections.

Mode of action

The eye drops contain the active ingredient azelastine, which belongs to the group of antihistamines.Antihistamines prevent the effects of substances that the body produces in connection with an allergic reaction.Azelastine reduces eye inflammation and helps relieve allergy symptoms.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The ingredients of Pollival 0.5 mg/ml eye drops solution include 0.5 mg azelastine hydrochloride and 0.46 mg azelastine. In addition, the product contains various excipients such as disodium edetate-2 water, hypromellose, sodium hydroxide, sorbitol and water for injections.

Contraindications

Pollival 0.5 mg/ml eye drop solution must not be used if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients. In this case you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage

To treat eye problems caused by hay fever (seasonal allergic conjunctivitis), it is recommended to put one drop in each eye morning and evening. If contact with pollen is expected, the dose can be used preventatively. For non-seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, one drop is also given in each eye morning and evening. The eye drops should be used regularly until the symptoms disappear, but not longer than 6 weeks. To instill the drops correctly, the first few times you should sit in front of a mirror, wash your hands, wipe your eyes, open the bottle and carefully instill the drop in the center of the lower eyelid without touching the eye. After that, you should release the eyelid, press it lightly against your nose and blink several times to disperse the drop.

Patient information

Particular caution is advised if you are not sure whether your eye problems are due to an allergy. If symptoms worsen or persist for more than 48 hours, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist. Before use, you should also ask if you are taking other medicines or wearing contact lenses.Your vision may be temporarily affected after use, so you should wait until you can see clearly before driving or operating machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant, want to become pregnant or are breastfeeding, you should ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice before using this medicine.

Notes

No prescription is required for this product. For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacy.

Pollival® eye drops - The Polli concept: Strong against hay fever and allergies

With the “Polli” product line, URSAPHARM has developed an efficient medication concept specifically for people with allergies.Pollicrom® nasal spray and eye drops with cromoglicic acid (sodium cromoglicate) serve as basic protection. For acute allergy and hay fever symptoms such as constant sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes, Pollival® eye drops and nasal spray with the proven active ingredient azelastine can provide quick relief.Vegan, without preservatives and 100% made in Germany with tested medicinal quality.

Quick defense for the eyes in case of hay fever & allergies

Pollival® eye drops are effective for eye allergy symptoms and relieve the symptoms after just a few minutes. The active ingredient azelastine has been established for decades and is well tolerated. The eye drops are free of preservatives and phosphates, have a high yield and are inexpensive.

Well-tolerated antihistamine without preservatives

Pollival® eye drops reliably block the effect of the allergy-causing messenger histamine and provide quick relief. Thanks to the patented COMOD® system, there is no need for preservatives and the liquid remains stable for 12 weeks after opening. The eye drops are easy to use and very effective.

Anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory

The active ingredient azelastine in Pollival® eye drops is a second generation antihistamine. It stabilizes the histamine-secreting mast cells and blocks the docking of the messenger histamine to specific receptors.Allergic and inflammatory reactions such as itchy and watery eyes can be prevented or significantly reduced within a few minutes when used just twice a day.

Hay fever

Hay fever is a common allergic disease in Germany. For efficient relief of eye problems, people with pollen allergies are recommended to use an antihistamine without preservatives locally, such as:B. Pollival® eye drops. The medicine is particularly well tolerated and takes effect within a few minutes.

House dust allergy

If you have a house dust allergy, your immune system will react all year round. The symptoms in the eyes and nose often occur especially at night and disrupt restful sleep.

Animal hair allergy

The trigger for an animal hair allergy is protein-containing substances in saliva, sebum, sweat or urine, which are deposited in the fur and spread through the hair via breathing air and house dust.A fast-acting antihistamine such as Pollival® eye drops should therefore always be on hand.

Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

How often should Pollival® eye drops be used?Pollival® eye drops with the active ingredient azelastine are suitable for quick relief from allergic eye problems.Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, 1 drop is dripped into the lower eyelid of the affected eye in the morning and evening. If the symptoms are severe, the dose can be increased to up to 4 times a day - in consultation with your ophthalmologist.Relief of the symptoms should begin after 15 to 30 minutes.Immediately after instillation, there may be a short-term impairment of vision. Therefore, wait a few minutes after using Pollival® eye drops before driving or actively participating in traffic, operating electrical machines and tools, or working without a secure hold.Regular use is recommended until the symptoms have completely subsided. However, the total duration of use of Pollival® eye drops should not exceed 6 weeks. Please note that, as with other eye drop preparations, only the same person may be treated with a bottle of Pollival® eye drops in order to avoid the transmission of germs.

Are Pollival® eye drops also suitable for children? The use in children depends on the cause of the symptoms. For eye problems caused by hay fever (seasonal allergic conjunctivitis/conjunctivitis), Pollival® eye drops can be given to children aged 4 and over. However, if it is non-seasonal, year-round conjunctivitis as a result of other allergies, Pollival® eye drops are suitable for children and adolescents aged 12 and over. Please discuss the dosage of the eye drops with your treating pediatrician, ophthalmologist or allergist.

Can Pollival® eye drops be used with contact lenses? In principle, contact lenses should not be worn if conjunctivitis is caused by allergies. If your ophthalmologist allows you to wear contact lenses in exceptional cases, please remove the contact lenses before instillation and only put them back in 15 minutes after instillation.

Doesn't an antihistamine make you tired?Fatigue as a side effect is more commonly observed when taking oral antihistamines. However, when an antihistamine is used locally, such as eye drops and nasal sprays containing azelastine, fatigue only occurs in rare cases.

Can I also use Pollival® eye drops to treat eye infections? No, Pollival® eye drops are not suitable for other inflammatory eye diseases. If you are unsure whether your eye problems are actually caused by an allergy, please speak to your ophthalmologist or pharmacist first. In particular, if only one eye is affected, vision is impaired or there are no symptoms in the nose, this indicates an infection rather than an allergy, which should be treated with a preparation suitable for the disease in question after consultation with the doctor.

In my search for an alternative to Allergocrom, which is no longer available, I am very happy with Pollival from the same manufacturer Ursapharm, which works equally well.
