Cetirizine AL 10 mg film-coated tablets contain the active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride.This medication is indicated for the relief of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and for the relief of chronic hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria) in adults and children 6 years of age and older.No prescription is required for this product.

The tablets consist of different ingredients.The tablet core contains microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.) and highly dispersed silicon dioxide.The film coating consists of hypromellose, macrogol 400 and titanium oxide (E171).Contains lactose.

Areas of application

Cetirizine AL 10 mg film-coated tablets are suitable for the relief of nasal and eye symptoms in seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and for the relief of chronic hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria) in adults and children aged 6 years and over.

Mode of action

Cetirizine AL 10 mg film-coated tablets work through the active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride, which inhibits the effects of histamine.Histamine is a chemical messenger released during allergic reactions and causes symptoms such as itching, sneezing and a runny nose.Cetirizine inhibits the release of histamine and thus alleviates allergic symptoms.

Dosage and application

Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over take a 10 mg dose daily.Children aged 6 to 12 years take half a tablet daily in the morning and evening.People with known kidney weakness should only take half a tablet daily.The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid.

Precautions

If you suffer from impaired kidney function, you should consult your doctor before taking the drug.Cetirizine dihydrochloride can increase the effects of alcohol, so alcohol should be avoided while taking it.With long-term treatment, increased tooth decay can develop due to dry mouth.It is therefore important to pay particular attention to oral hygiene.

Side effects

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints, headaches, dizziness, tiredness, sleepiness, restlessness and dry mouth.If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Cetirizine AL 10 mg film-coated tablets should not be taken if you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, have severe kidney dysfunction or are allergic to cetirizine dihydrochloride, hydroxyzine or other piperazine derivatives.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.Taking the drug should be avoided by pregnant women.Cetirizine passes into breast milk, so you should not take it while breast-feeding until you consult your doctor.

Notes

In case of liver and/or kidney dysfunction, the dose should be limited to half a tablet daily (5 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride).When driving a car, working without a secure hold or operating machines, the specified dose should not be exceeded and the individual reaction to the medication should be awaited.
