What is a vaginal yeast infection or vaginal mycosis?

Numerous organs can become affected by a fungal infection, also known as mycosis.A vaginal yeast infection is an infection of the vagina and/or labia.An antifungal drug is used for treatment.This is necessary because the body cannot eliminate a fungal infection on its own.

How does a vaginal yeast infection occur?

In most cases, a vaginal yeast infection is caused by the yeast “Candida albicans”.Yeast fungi settle in small numbers on mucous membranes, for example in the oral cavity, intestines or vagina, and are generally not pathogenic.However, if the vaginal environment is out of balance, the fungi can multiply excessively and this can lead to infection.

The most common triggers are:

Hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy or menopause.Weak immune system due to stress or infections.Changed vaginal flora after taking an antibiotic.

Typical symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection:

Severe itching or burning in the area of the external pubic area and the entrance to the vagina.Increased white-greyish, crumbly discharge.Redness and swelling of the affected tissue.

Mode of action

Mykofungin 3 Combi resolves the symptoms quickly, reliably and sustainably.The active ingredient clotrimazole inhibits the growth and reproduction of fungi and kills the fungal cells.It is well tolerated because it primarily works on the fungal cell membrane, which is different from the human cell membrane.The unpleasant symptoms usually disappear within a few days.For long-term therapeutic success, treatment should be continued until the symptoms have completely subsided.

Mykofungin 3 Combi contains the active ingredient clotrimazole.One vaginal tablet contains 200 mg clotrimazole.1 g of cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole.

The other components are:

Vaginal tablets: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, adipic acid, sodium hydrogen carbonate, stearic acid [pflanzlich], magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.) [pflanzlich], highly dispersed silicon dioxide, polysorbate 80.

Cream: Octyldodecanol (Ph.Eur.), Cetylstearyl alcohol (Ph.Eur.) [pflanzlich], cetyl palmitate (Ph.Eur.), sorbitan stearate, polysorbate 60, benzyl alcohol, purified water.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, this product should not be used.

Dosage

Recommended use of Mykofungin 3 Combi:

Vaginal tablets: Vaginal use.Insert a vaginal tablet as deeply as possible into the vagina once a day, in the evening, for 3 consecutive days.This is best done lying on your back with your legs slightly pulled up.

Cream: Use on the skin.In the case of infections of the labia (Candida vulvitis) and adjacent areas, you should apply the cream thinly to the relevant skin areas (external genitals up to the anus) 2-3 times a day and rub it in.

Intake

Insert the vaginal tablets as deeply as possible into the vagina in the evening.Apply the cream to the relevant skin areas (external genitals up to the anus).

Patient information

Particular caution is required when using the drug.Please consult your doctor about this if the disease occurs for the first time or if you have had more than 4 such fungal infections in the past 12 months.No special precautions are required when driving or using machines.

Pregnancy

Before taking/using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.For reasons of caution, you may only use the medicine during pregnancy after an appropriate benefit/risk assessment by your treating doctor.If you are breastfeeding, you can use this medicine as directed by your doctor.

Notes

The cream contains cetostearyl alcohol and benzyl alcohol.The vaginal tablet contains lactose.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.

Application

Insert 1 vaginal tablet as deeply as possible into the vagina in the evening on three consecutive days.Apply the cream 1-3 times daily. Since the vagina and vulva are usually affected, a combination treatment (treatment of both areas) should be carried out.The vaginal tablets are best used lying on your back with your legs slightly drawn up.The treatment should preferably not be carried out during menstruation or should be completed before it begins.
