The Healthy Bowel Home Test is a rapid test to detect invisible blood in the stool. It can indicate intestinal diseases such as diverticulitis, colitis and intestinal polyps and can be used as a first aid for symptoms such as diarrhoea or other intestinal problems. The test provides clarity within 5 minutes and is as reliable as a laboratory result. As we age, the risk of having invisible blood hidden in the stool increases, so a bowel screening self-test is important. Early detection of bowel disease, especially bowel cancer, allows for a better chance of treatment.

The rapid test detects human haemoglobin (Hb) in stool above a threshold of 40 ng/ml. It uses an antibody reaction that is specifically directed against faecal haemoglobin. The accuracy of the test is more than 98 %. A positive result indicates that blood has been detected in the stool and requires a visit to the doctor. The test kit contains a vessel with dilution solution and integrated sample collection stick, a test cassette and instructions for use.

Performing the test requires collecting a stool sample in a clean container and taking samples with an applicator. A positive result shows a line in the control field (C) and a line in the test field (T), while a negative result shows a line in the control field (C) and no line in the test field (T). An invalid result is indicated if no control line (C) or only one test line (T) is visible. In case of an invalid result, a new test should be performed with a new stool sample.
