What is Espumisan Emulsion and what is it used for?

Espumisan Emulsion is a defoamer used for gas-related gastrointestinal complaints such as flatulence, bloating and infant colic (three-month colic).The active ingredient simeticone dissolves the gas bubbles in the digestive tract, thereby alleviating the symptoms.The product is suitable for all ages and is not absorbed into the blood.It is also approved for use in preparation for abdominal examinations and as a defoamer for dishwashing liquid poisoning.

Espumisan Emulsion is free of sugar, alcohol, dyes, lactose and flavors.

Mode of action

Flatulence often occurs when air enters the stomach when drinking quickly and combines with food to form a foamy mixture.This can cause restlessness and discomfort in the intestines.The active ingredient Simeticon in Espumisan Emulsion specifically dissolves the tough foam bubbles in the digestive tract, allowing the gas to escape and alleviating the symptoms.Simeticon is excreted unchanged.

Espumisan Emulsion contains the active ingredient simeticone.Other ingredients include macrogol stearate 1500, glycerol monostearate, sorbic acid, hyprolose, sodium cyclamate, saccharin sodium and purified water.

Contraindications

Espumisan Emulsion must not be taken if there is an intolerance to simeticone or other ingredients.

Dosage

The dosage of Espumisan Emulsion depends on age and the area of application.For infants, 25 drops (1 milliliter) per meal are recommended.Children 1 to 6 years old can take 25 drops 3 to 5 times daily.Children 6 to 14 years old can take 25 to 50 drops 3 to 5 times a day.Adolescents aged 14 and over and adults can take 50 drops 3 to 5 times a day.

Different dosages are recommended for the preparation of examinations in the abdominal area, which are described in detail in the leaflet.For dishwashing liquid poisoning, children can take 2.5 to 10 milliliters and adults 10 to 20 milliliters.

The bottle should be shaken well before use.The emulsion can be added directly to the bottle or administered before or after breastfeeding.It can also be stirred into cooled tea or porridge.The duration of application depends on the symptoms.

The bottle should be shaken well before use.The preparation is taken with or after meals and, if necessary, before going to bed.It can also be taken after operations.To drip, the bottle is held vertically downwards.25 drops (corresponding to 1 ml to be taken) contain 40 mg simeticone.
