Mode of action

Flatulence often occurs in babies when air enters the stomach while drinking quickly and combines with milk to form a foamy mixture.This can cause restlessness and discomfort in the intestines.Adults also know the unpleasant feeling of flatulence, fullness and colic-like abdominal pain.Espumisan Emulsion is a mild and reliable option. The active ingredient Simeticon contains a targeted effect only in the digestive tract and dissolves the tough foam bubbles that are responsible for the symptoms.The gas escapes and the body excretes Simeticon unchanged.

Espumisan Emulsion contains the following ingredients: 25 drops (1 milliliter) of Espumisan Emulsion contain the active ingredient Simeticon (40mg) as well as the other ingredients macrogol stearate 1500, glycerol monostearate, sorbic acid (Ph. Eur.), hyprolose, sodium cyclamate, saccharin sodium and purified water.

Contraindications

Espumisan Emulsion must not be taken if there is an intolerance to simeticone or other ingredients.

Dosage

Recommended use of Espumisan Emulsion: For gas-related complaints, infants can receive 25 drops (1 milliliter) directly into the bottle or before/after breastfeeding.Children 1 to 6 years old can take 25 drops (1 milliliter) 3 to 5 times a day.Children and adolescents aged 6 to 14 can take 25 to 50 drops (1 to 2 milliliters) 3 to 5 times a day.Adolescents aged 14 and over and adults can take 50 drops (2 milliliters) 3 to 5 times a day.

To prepare for examinations such as X-rays or ultrasound, 2 milliliters can be taken three times the day before and 2 milliliters once on the morning of the day of the examination.As an additive to contrast media, 4 to 8 milliliters per liter of contrast paste can be used.During endoscopies, 4 to 8 milliliters can be taken before the examination, and if necessary, a few milliliters of the emulsion can be given through the instrumentation channel of the endoscope during the examination.

For surfactant poisoning, children can take 2.5 to 10 milliliters and adults 10 to 20 milliliters.Please refer to the package insert for the exact dosage.

The Espumisan drops are easy to use.Before use, shake the bottle well.For babies, mix the emulsion directly into the bottle or give it before or after a breastfeeding/meal.They can also be easily stirred into cooled tea or porridge.The duration of application depends on the symptoms.If necessary, you can also use Espumisan Emulsion long-term and after operations.

How and for how long can Espumisan Emulsion help my baby?

For gas-related 3-month colic, babies can be given 25 drops of Espumisan Emulsion with each meal.The drops are administered with a spoon after breastfeeding or are placed in a ready-to-drink bottle.Espumisan Emulsion can be given as long as the baby suffers from the symptoms.Due to its good tolerability, it is safe to use throughout the entire 3-month colic period.

In any case, it is important to have a pediatrician's office clarify whether it is "just" a gas-related 3-month colic or symptoms of another, possibly more serious illness.
