Octenident Antiseptic is a solution for use in the oral cavity containing octenidine dihydrochloride as the active ingredient. It has an antimicrobial effect and is used for temporary germ count reduction in the oral cavity, for temporary inhibition of plaque formation and in cases of limited oral hygiene ability (e.g. when tooth brushing is not possible) in adults. Octenident Antiseptic works after only 30 seconds and effectively fights plaque, the main cause of gingivitis and periodontitis. The solution has a broad spectrum of action and can also be used during pregnancy. It contains no alcohol and has a pleasant minty taste. It is used twice a day after meals and brushing the teeth. The oral cavity is rinsed for about 30 seconds and the solution is then spat out. The solution should not be swallowed and the mouth should not be rinsed with water immediately after use. A duration of use of more than five days in a row is not recommended. Octenident Antiseptic should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients and must not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Possible side effects include tooth discolouration, coated tongue, tongue discolouration, increased germ colonisation in the mouth, mouth numbness, tooth sensitivity, headache, nausea, mouth discomfort and increased production of oral saliva.
