Contramutan syrup is a homeopathic medicine used to treat colds. It contains natural active ingredients such as water astragalus, aconitum, belladonna and echinacea. The syrup can be used for febrile flu-like infections with inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. The dosage depends on age and body weight. For infants from 1 year to 6 years, the single dose is 2.5 ml and the total daily dose is 30 ml. For children 6-12 years and older, it is 3.5 ml single dose and 42 ml total daily dose. Adolescents from 12 years and adults should take 5.0 ml single dose and 60 ml total daily dose. The liquid should be left in the mouth for some time before swallowing. The duration of use depends on the therapeutic need, but because of the component echinacea, Contramutan syrup should not be used for longer than 2 weeks. It should be noted that the syrup contains alcohol and may therefore pose a risk to certain groups of people such as liver patients, pregnant women and children. The product should not be used in case of known hypersensitivity to the ingredients. Possible side effects are skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, shortness of breath, dizziness and drop in blood pressure.
