Contramutan syrup is a homeopathic medicine for the treatment of febrile flu-like infections with inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. It contains Eupatorium perfoliatum, Aconitum, Belladonna and Echinacea as active ingredients. The syrup is taken undiluted and should be left in the mouth for some time before swallowing. The dosage varies according to age and body weight. It is recommended not to exceed the maximum daily dose. The syrup contains 3.7% alcohol and sucrose (sugar). Contraindications include hypersensitivity to the ingredients, tuberculosis, leukaemia-like diseases and liver disease. Side effects may include skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, shortness of breath, dizziness and drop in blood pressure. The syrup should be stored at room temperature and used within 14 days after opening.
