Area of application

Lygal head ointment N 3% is an ointment with a callus-softening effect.It is used to exfoliate horny cells, for example in psoriasis of the hairy head and dandruff.No prescription is required for this product.

The active ingredient of Lygal Head Ointment N 3% is salicylic acid.Each gram of the ointment contains 30 mg of salicylic acid.The other ingredients are lard, emulsifying cetostearyl alcohol (type A), macrogol 300, macrogol 1500, macrogol glycerol ricinoleate and white petroleum jelly.

Contraindications

Lygal head ointment N 3% must not be used if you are hypersensitive to salicylic acid or any of the other ingredients.The ointment must not be used on infants.Particular caution is required if kidney function is impaired.The ointment should only be used in small areas in exceptional cases and not for longer than three days.

Dosage

Apply Lygal Head Ointment N 3% once a day to the affected scalp.The maximum daily dose for adults is 2 g salicylic acid (equivalent to approx. 67 g ointment) or for children 0.2 g salicylic acid (equivalent to approx. 7 g ointment).To use, part your hair in different places, apply the ointment to the scalp and rub it in.Adults prefer to leave the ointment on overnight for 8 - 12 hours, children 2 - 6 hours depending on age.The maximum daily dose must not be used for longer than one week.

Patient information

Avoid contact of the ointment with mucous membranes and eyes.In skin diseases with redness and inflammation, the skin's permeability to salicylic acid may be increased.Do not bring the ointment into contact with paint or plastic as these can become dull.

Pregnancy

Lygal head ointment N 3% should not be used during pregnancy.If you are breastfeeding, you should avoid contact of your treated head with the baby, as the baby could accidentally absorb salicylic acid.

Other

If you have reduced kidney function, you should not use it over a long period of time over several weeks.Keep the ointment out of the reach of children and do not use it after the expiry date stated on the container.After opening the container, the ointment should be used within 3 months.
