Lygal head ointment N 3% (50 g)

Description

This preparation is an ointment with keratolytic (horny-layer softening) properties.It is used to shed keratinized skin cells, for example in cases of scalp psoriasis and dandruff. No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and other constituents

The ointment contains 30 mg of salicylic acid as the active ingredient.Excipients include cetostearyl alcohol (emulsifying, type A), macrogol 1500, macrogol 300, PEG (30-50) castor oil, lard, and white soft paraffin (Vaseline).

Contraindications

The preparation must not be used if you are hypersensitive or allergic to salicylic acid or any of the other ingredients.Furthermore, use on infants is not permitted.

Dosage and administration

Always use the preparation exactly as described or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.The usual dosage involves application to the affected scalp once daily.Adults may use a maximum of 2 g of salicylic acid (approx. 67 g of ointment) per day; children may use a maximum of 0.2 g of salicylic acid (approx. 7 g of ointment).

To apply, part the hair in various places, apply the preparation to the scalp, and rub it in. Adults should ideally leave the ointment on for 8 to 12 hours (e.g., overnight) and then wash it out with a mild shampoo.For children, the contact time may be shorter—approximately 2 to 6 hours—provided the daily dose of 7 g of ointment is not exceeded.

Treatment at the maximum daily dose must not continue for longer than one week.The attending physician decides on the exact duration of use.Please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions regarding the product's effects.

Overdose and missed application

Overdose is generally not expected with topical application.However, skin irritation may occur.In such cases, discontinue use and remove the product.Effectiveness is ensured only through regular use.Apply the missed dose as soon as possible and continue with your regular application schedule.Consult your attending physician regarding this.

Discontinuing use

Stopping treatment too early may jeopardize the success of the treatment.Continue using the product for the duration prescribed by your doctor.

Information for patients

Please consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.Special caution is required if you suffer from impaired kidney function.In this case, the product should be applied only to small areas and for no longer than three days.

Avoid contact with mucous membranes, especially the eyes.If ointment is accidentally applied to these areas, remove it immediately—for example, by rinsing with plenty of water.Skin permeability to salicylic acid may be increased in cases of skin conditions involving redness, inflammation, or weeping lesions.

Do not allow the product to come into contact with lacquer or plastic, as these materials may become dull.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Always seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist before using any medicine.The product should not be used during pregnancy.During breastfeeding, you should avoid contact between the treated area of your head and the infant to prevent accidental ingestion of salicylic acid.
