Instructions for use for CALCIUM EAP Ampoules, 5X10 ml
Instructions for use for calcium-EAP-ampoules
Calcium-EAP 400 mg is an injection solution that is used for parenteral calcium therapy for calcium deficiency when oral administration is not possible. No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredient and mode of action
The active ingredient of calcium-EAP is (2-aminoethyl) dihydrogen phosphate, calcium salt.It is a mineral preparation for parenteral therapy. The active ingredient is a naturally occurring metabolic product of the organism and is one of the most important structural elements of the myelin sheath. As a fraction of phospholipids, it is an essential component of cell membranes. The anti-inflammatory mechanism of calcium-EAP is due to the introduction of complex-bound calcium into the cell and its persistent fixation in the intracellular space.
Areas of application
Calcium-EAP is used for parenteral calcium therapy for calcium deficiency when oral administration is not possible.
Contraindications
Calcium-EAP must not be used in cases of severe kidney dysfunction, hypercalcemia, primary hyperfunction of the parathyroid gland, vitamin D poisoning, diffuse plasmacytoma, bone metastases, immobilization osteoporosis in acute episodes, sarcoidosis and simultaneous treatment with digitalis preparations.Particular caution is required in the case of kidney stones, especially in cases of increased calcium excretion in the urine and nephrocalcinosis.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
The safety of using calcium-EAP during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been proven. Therefore, it should not be used during these periods.
Interactions with other medicines
The effect of digitalis glycosides on the heart is enhanced by calcium.Cardiac arrhythmias have been observed when calcium and adrenaline were administered simultaneously.Thiazide-type diuretics reduce calcium excretion. If calcium and thiazides are taken at the same time, the calcium plasma level should be checked.
Dosage instructions, type and duration of application
Adults: At the start of treatment, 1-2 ampoules of calcium-EAP intravenously daily. For long-term therapy, 2-3 ampoules per week are recommended. The injection treatment should be carried out until the symptoms disappear.Children: The use in children is not known.
Side effects
Rare: If the injection speed is too high, a feeling of heat, sweating, nausea, vomiting, cardiac arrhythmias and a drop in blood pressure can occur.Uncommon: In latent or manifest hepatitis and in larger, advanced malignant neoplasms, chills and transient headache may occasionally occur after intravenous injection. If the injection rate is too rapid, collapse can occur. With prolonged and intensive use, sensitive people may experience dyskinesia of the pancreas and biliary tract, and possibly even mild stenocardia.
Special Notes
If there is a predisposition to the formation of calcium oxalate kidney stones, the urine calcium should be checked. In cases of renal insufficiency, ongoing monitoring of serum calcium, phosphate and alkaline phosphatase is necessary.Only use clear solutions!
