VIGANTOL 1000 IU is used to prevent vitamin D deficiency as well as to support the treatment of osteoporosis and to prevent rickets.Vitamin D is involved in numerous metabolic processes in the body, including bone health, muscle strength and immune defense.A sufficient supply of vitamin D is therefore essential. VIGANTOL 1000 IU provides effective support - one tablet daily is enough to cover daily needs.

With VIGANTOL 1000 I.U. you have a practical solution at hand.Just half a tablet VIGANTOL 1000 IU taken continuously and daily is sufficient in most cases to prevent a vitamin D deficiency.The small, easy-to-swallow tablets can also be dissolved in a teaspoon of water if necessary.

Areas of application

VIGANTOL 1000 IU is used to prevent rickets, both in premature babies and in growing children.It also serves as prevention if there is a recognizable risk of vitamin D deficiency in otherwise healthy people without absorption disorders.The preparation is also used to support the treatment of osteoporosis in adults.

Vitamin D deficiency is widespread in our latitudes.Every second German has a poor supply of vitamin D.It is difficult to meet the daily requirement of vitamin D through food.For example, to absorb 1000 IU you would have to consume 2 kg of Gouda cheese, 2 kg of cod, 15 eggs and 28 l of whole milk.In most cases, just a single small tablet VIGANTOL® per day is enough to cover your daily needs.

1 Tablet VIGANTOL 1000 IU contains 25 µg colecalciferol, equivalent to 1000 IU vitamin D3.Other ingredients include alpha-tocopherol, carboxymethyl starch sodium, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, corn starch, mannitol, sodium ascorbate, sucrose, colloidal silicon dioxide, modified starch, talc and medium-chain triglycerides.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to colecalciferol or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.The preparation should also not be used in cases of hypercalcemia (increased calcium concentration in the blood) and hypercalciuria (increased calcium concentration in the urine).

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose to prevent rickets is ½ tablet daily (corresponding to 0.0125 mg or 500 IU of vitamin D).For prevention if there is a recognizable risk of vitamin D deficiency, ½ tablet daily is also recommended.To support the treatment of osteoporosis, 1 tablet daily (corresponding to approx. 0.025 mg or 1000 IU of vitamin D) is recommended.

Daily doses above 500 IU/d require regular monitoring of calcium levels in the blood and urine as well as kidney function by measuring serum creatinine.If necessary, a dose adjustment should be made according to the blood calcium values.

Infants receive the preparation from the second week of life until the end of the first year of life.Additional doses are recommended in the second year of life, especially during the winter months.Please consult your doctor about the necessary duration of use.

Intake

Adults can take the tablets with enough water.For infants and young children, the tablet should be dissolved on a teaspoon with water or milk and the dissolved tablet should be given directly into the child's mouth, ideally during a meal.Adding the tablets to a bottle or porridge meal for infants is not recommended, as complete intake cannot be guaranteed.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking it if there is a tendency to form calcium-containing kidney stones, impaired excretion of calcium and phosphate via the kidneys, treatment with benzothiadiazine derivatives, immobilized patients and sarcoidosis.In patients with impaired renal function, the effect on calcium and phosphate balance should be monitored.

Infants and young children should use the product with particular caution as they may not be able to swallow the tablets.It is recommended to dissolve the tablets as directed or use drops instead.If other medicines containing vitamin D are prescribed, the dose of vitamin D must be taken into account.

Pregnancy

To date, no risks are known in the specified dose range. Long-term overdoses of vitamin D must be prevented during pregnancy, as the resulting hypercalcemia can lead to physical and mental disability as well as congenital heart and eye diseases in the child.During pregnancy, Vigantoletten 1000 IU should only be taken according to strict indications and only in the dosage that is absolutely necessary to correct the deficiency.

Vitamin D and its metabolites pass into breast milk.An overdose in infants caused in this way has not been observed.If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
