What are travel tablets AL and what are they used for?

Travel tablets AL are an anti-nausea and vomiting medicine that belongs to the group of H1 antihistamines.They are used to prevent and treat motion sickness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, but not in chemotherapy.The active ingredient in travel tablets AL is dimenhydrinate, and each tablet contains 50 mg of it.

Areas of application

Travel tablets AL are used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting and dizziness, especially in the case of travel-related sensitivity disorders such as motion sickness.

Mode of action

The active ingredient dimenhydrinate in travel tablets AL blocks the histamine1 receptors located centrally in the vomiting center.This means that the dizziness, nausea and vomiting caused by the messenger histamine can be suppressed and prevented.Histamine is released excessively in the body under certain conditions, such as bus and ship travel.

1 Tablet of travel tablets AL contains 50 mg dimenhydrinate as an active ingredient.Other ingredients included: calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, carboxymethyl starch sodium (type A) (Ph. Eur.), cellulose powder, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.) and highly dispersed silicon dioxide.

Contraindications

Travel tablets AL should not be used in the event of hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients, diseases of the cerebral vessels, simultaneous use of aminoglycoside antibiotics, acute asthma attack, glaucoma, adrenal tumor, disorder of the formation of the blood pigment, enlargement of the prostate gland and seizures (epilepsy).Caution is advised in case of impaired liver function, potassium or magnesium deficiency, various heart diseases, chronic breathing problems and narrowing at the outlet of the stomach.The medicine must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Dosage

To prevent motion sickness, take one tablet 3 times a day.The first tablet should be taken 30 minutes before the start of the trip.To treat motion sickness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, take 1-2 tablets every 4 hours, but no more than 6 tablets per day.Children 6-12 years old take 5 mg dimenhydrinate/kg body weight or 25-50 mg (1/2 - 1 tablet) every 6-8 hours, but no more than 3 tablets daily.Take the tablets whole and with plenty of liquid.

Intake

Take the tablets preferably before meals with plenty of liquid.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the drug.The preparation must not be used in premature babies and newborns because the child's organism is particularly sensitive to the active ingredient.Even when used as intended, the medicine can change the ability to react to such an extent that the ability to actively participate in road traffic, operate machines or work without a secure footing is impaired.This applies to an even greater extent when combined with alcohol.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.The medicine should not be used during pregnancy or if you are planning to become pregnant.Please inform your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment.Because dimenhydrinate passes into breast milk, you should not use the medicine if you are breast-feeding a child.In addition, children should not come into contact with treated skin, including the mother's breast.

Notes
