Craton 30 mg film-coated tablets are a medicine that contains a dry extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves.This product is available without a prescription.

Areas of application

Craton is used for the symptomatic treatment of organically brain-related loss of mental performance as part of an overall therapeutic concept in the event of progressive decline or loss of acquired mental abilities (dementia syndrome) with the main complaints such as memory disorders, concentration disorders, depression, dizziness, ringing in the ears and headaches.It is also used to extend the pain-free walking distance in cases of arterial occlusive disease in the limbs (intermittent claudication) as part of physical-therapeutic measures, especially walking training.It can also be used for dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears as a result of circulatory problems or age-related regression processes.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each film-coated tablet contains 30 mg dry extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves (35-67:1), extracted with acetone 60% (m/m).The extract is quantified to contain 6.6-8.1 mg flavonoids, calculated as flavonoid glycosides, as well as 1.5-2.1 mg terpene lactones, of which 0.84-1.02 mg ginkgolides A, B and C and 0.78-0.96 mg bilobalide, and contains less than 0.15 µg ginkgolic acids per film-coated tablet.Other ingredients include lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 1500, talc, titanium dioxide, iron (III) oxide, simeticone, sorbic acid and methylcellulose.

Dosage and application

Adults aged 18 and over should take 2 film-coated tablets twice a day, equivalent to 120 mg of ginkgo extract per day, for the symptomatic treatment of organic brain-related performance disorders, to extend the pain-free walking distance in peripheral arterial disease, for dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears.The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of drinking water.It can be taken regardless of meals.

The duration of treatment should vary depending on the area of application: at least 8 weeks for organic brain-related performance disorders, at least 6 weeks for peripheral arterial disease, no longer than 6 to 8 weeks for dizziness and at least 12 weeks for ringing in the ears.If there is no success with ringing in the ears after 6 months, this can no longer be expected even with longer treatment.

Contraindications

Craton must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to Ginkgo biloba or any of the other ingredients or if you are pregnant.Particular caution is required if there is a pathologically increased tendency to bleeding or if you are being treated with anticoagulant drugs at the same time.As a precaution, the medicine should be discontinued before surgery.If you have epilepsy, you should consult a doctor before taking it.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Craton can cause side effects.Possible side effects include bleeding from individual organs, allergic skin reactions, mild gastrointestinal complaints, headaches and dizziness.If you experience any of the side effects mentioned, do not take Craton again and contact your doctor immediately.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.The medicine may no longer be used after the expiry date stated on the outer carton or container.
