Area of application

Allergodil Akut Duo is an anti-allergic drug that is used for the symptomatic treatment of seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, such as hay fever in combination with allergic conjunctivitis, in adults, adolescents and children aged 6 years and over.The product is available without a prescription.

Mode of action

Allergodil Akut Duo contains the active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride, which acts as an antihistamine.Upon contact with allergens, histamine is released, which causes inflammation in the mucous membranes of the eyes and nose.Azelastine hydrochloride prevents histamine from binding to mucous membranes, relieving symptoms such as itching, redness, swelling and sneezing within minutes.

Eye drops: 1 ml solution contains 0.5 mg azelastine hydrochloride.One drop contains 0.015 mg of azelastine hydrochloride.Other ingredients are benzalkonium chloride (preservative), sodium edetate, hypromellose, sorbitol solution 70%, sodium hydroxide solution 4% and water for injections.

Nasal spray: 1 ml solution contains 1 mg azelastine hydrochloride.One spray (0.14 ml solution) contains 0.14 mg azelastine hydrochloride.Other ingredients include sodium edetate, hypromellose, sodium monohydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, citric acid, sodium chloride and purified water.

Contraindications

Allergodil Akut Duo should not be used if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.If you have impaired kidney or liver function, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.Children under 6 years of age should not use the medicine.If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use should be discussed with a doctor.

Dosage

Eye drops: The recommended dose is 1 drop in each eye twice a day (morning and evening).If the symptoms are severe, the dose can be increased to 4 times a day.On days with heavy allergen exposure, the eye drops should be used in the morning after getting up.

Nasal spray: The recommended dose is 1 spray per nostril twice a day (morning and evening).The same dosage applies to adults, teenagers and children aged 6 years and over.

Use should be continued for as long as you are exposed to the allergy-causing substances.The nasal spray can be used long-term, while the eye drops should not be used continuously for more than 6 weeks without consulting a doctor.

Application instructions

Eye drops: Wash your hands before use and remove tears from the lower edge of the eyelid.Tilt your head back, pull off your lower eyelid slightly and instill a drop into the conjunctival sac without letting the tip of the dropper touch the eye.Then let go of your eyelid and press it lightly against your nose from the corner of your eye.Blink slowly several times to disperse the drop and remove excess liquid.

Nasal spray: With your head in an upright position, remove the protective cap and pump several times for the first use until an even spray mist comes out.Apply one spray per nostril and put the protective cap back on.The head position should remain upright during use.

Notes

Allergodil Akut Duo should be kept out of the reach of children.The eye drops should be used within 4 weeks of opening, the nasal spray within 6 months.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the outer carton and container.The nasal spray should not be stored below +8 °C.
