Instructions for use of Mucosolvan cough syrup

Mucosolvan cough syrup contains the active ingredient ambroxol hydrochloride and is used for the expectorant treatment of acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs with thick mucus.No prescription is required for this product.

Ingredients

In addition to the active ingredient ambroxol hydrochloride (30 mg per 5 ml), the cough syrup also contains the excipients benzoic acid, hyetellose, sucralose, natural and nature-identical flavorings, propylene glycol and purified water.

Mode of action

Ambroxol hydrochloride loosens stuck mucus in the respiratory tract.The viscous mucus becomes thinner and its adhesion to the mucous membranes of the bronchi decreases.This reduces mucus and makes it easier to cough up.Applied locally, the active ingredient can anesthetize mucous membranes on the surface and, for example, relieve a sore throat for a short time.

Areas of application

The cough syrup is used to treat respiratory diseases with thick mucus, such as mucous coughs.It is suitable for the whole family, but it should only be given to small children under two years of age as directed by a doctor.

Dosage and application

The cough syrup can be taken with or without meals.To do this, use the included measuring cup and rinse it with warm water after use.The recommended dosage is:

Infants under 2 years: 1.25 ml twice daily, only as directed by a doctor.

Children 2-5 years: 1.25 ml three times daily.

Children 6-12 years: 2.5 ml two to three times daily.

Adolescents aged 12 and over and adults: 5 ml three times a day, after two to three days 5 ml twice a day.

You should not use the medicine for longer than 4-5 days without medical advice.An overdose can cause restlessness, vomiting, diarrhea and a drop in blood pressure.If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor immediately.

Side effects

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain, dry mouth, numbness of the tongue, taste disorders and hypersensitivity reactions of the skin and mucous membranes such as itching, rash and angioneurotic edema.Attacks of shortness of breath and fever may also occur.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients.If there is reduced function of the cilia in the respiratory tract, impaired kidney or liver function, you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use.If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should also consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

The medicine may be used for a maximum of 6 months after opening and must be stored at room temperature.
