Area of application

Mucosolvan drops 30 mg/2 ml are a medicine for dissolving mucus in respiratory diseases with thick mucus.It is used to treat acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs.The product is available without a prescription.

Mode of action

The active ingredient ambroxol hydrochloride stimulates the formation of thin mucus in the respiratory tract.This makes the bronchial mucus more liquid and can be coughed up more easily.In addition, the activity of the cilia on the bronchial mucosa is stimulated, which supports the removal of mucus.

2 ml of solution (approx. 40 drops) contains 30 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride.The other ingredients are benzoic acid, sorbitol solution 70% (non-crystallizing), glycerol 85%, flavorings and purified water.

Contraindications

Mucosolvan drops 30 mg/2 ml must not be used if you are hypersensitive to ambroxol hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients.If you have impaired kidney or liver function, the drops should only be taken on medical advice.In the case of rare diseases of the bronchi that are associated with excessive accumulation of secretions, the medicine should only be used under medical supervision.Children under 2 years of age may only take the drops if directed by a doctor.

Dosage

Children up to 2 years: ½ ml solution twice daily (corresponding to 10 drops twice daily = 15 mg ambroxol hydrochloride/day).Children from 2 to 5 years: ½ ml solution 3 times daily (equivalent to 10 drops 3 times daily = 22.5 mg ambroxol hydrochloride/day).Children from 6 to 12 years: 1 ml solution 2 - 3 times daily (equivalent to 20 drops 2 - 3 times daily = 30 - 45 mg ambroxol hydrochloride/day).Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over: As a rule, 2 ml solution 3 times a day (equivalent to 40 drops 3 times a day = 90 mg ambroxol hydrochloride/day) for the first 2 - 3 days, then 2 ml solution 2 times a day (equivalent to 40 drops 2 times a day = 60 mg ambroxol hydrochloride/day).An increase in effectiveness may be possible by administering 4 ml of solution twice daily (corresponding to 120 mg ambroxol hydrochloride/day).

Intake

Mucosolvan drops 30 mg/2 ml are taken diluted in liquid (e.g. water, tea or juice) with or without meals.The bottle should be held vertically for dripping.If necessary, you can lightly tap the bottom of the bottle to drip.The measuring cup should be cleaned after use by rinsing with warm water.

Patient information

If your condition worsens or does not improve after 4-5 days, you should consult a doctor.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.The medicine can be used for 12 months after opening the bottle and must be stored at room temperature.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, you should only take medication after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.Ambroxol reaches the unborn child, so the medicine should not be taken during pregnancy, especially during the first 3 months.Use during breastfeeding is not recommended.
