Prospan cough liquid is a herbal medicine that is used to relieve symptoms of chronic inflammatory bronchial diseases and acute inflammation of the respiratory tract with cough.It helps to loosen stuck mucus and make it easier to cough up.No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

The active ingredient in Prospan cough liquid is ivy leaf dry extract.The saponins contained in ivy, especially alpha-hederin, are able to reduce the surface tension of the fluid that covers the alveoli.This loosens stuck secretions and makes them easier to cough up.This leads to a relief of the urge to cough and an improvement in breathing.

5 ml of Prospan cough liquid contains 35 mg of dry extract of ivy leaves (5-7.5:1).The extractant is ethanol 30% (m/m).Other ingredients include potassium sorbate, anhydrous citric acid, xanthan gum, sorbitol solution 70% (crystallizing), flavorings, levomenthol and purified water.5 ml of liquid contains 1.926 g sorbitol (sugar substitute) = 0.16 bread units.

Contraindications

Prospan cough liquid must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.The medicine is not suitable for use in children under 6 years of age.

Dosage

Children aged 6 to 11 should take one stick twice a day, morning and evening.Adults and young people aged 12 and over should take one stick 3 times a day, morning, afternoon and evening.The liquid should be taken undiluted.

Intake

The liquid should be taken undiluted morning, afternoon and evening.The bag should be kneaded well before taking.If there is no improvement after a week of use or if your condition worsens, you should consult a doctor.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking children under 6 years of age.No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

This medicine should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding as there are no sufficient studies.

Notes
