Eicosan 750 Omega-3 concentrate is a lipid-lowering agent that is used to lower severely elevated blood fat (triglyceride) levels.The medicine is only given if diet alone is not enough to lower blood fat levels.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in Eicosan 750 Omega-3 concentrate is fish oil rich in omega-3 acids.Each soft capsule contains 750 mg of this fish oil, which contains at least 13% eicosapentaenoic acid and at least 9% docosahexaenoic acid.Other ingredients include All-rac-a-tocopherol, gelatin, glycerol 85%, sorbitol solution 70% (non-crystallizing) and purified water.Contains sorbitol.

Dosage and application

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.The usual adult dose for hypertriglyceridemia can be up to 10-14 capsules per day.The capsules should be taken whole with a little liquid immediately before meals.

In the case of lipid metabolism disorders, every treatment begins with advice from the doctor.In many cases, lipid metabolism disorders can be positively influenced by changes in diet, increased physical exercise, weight loss and adequate treatment of possibly another metabolic disease (diabetes, gout).These measures should precede the use of medication for several weeks and be maintained while taking Eicosan 750.Drug treatment is generally only indicated as an additional measure and only if the metabolic disorder cannot be remedied by the measures mentioned alone.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.At higher doses, nausea and belching may occasionally occur.A smell or taste of fish is possible.Eicosan 750 can prolong bleeding time and inhibit platelet aggregation.The appearance of bruises (skin bleeding, mucous membrane bleeding, so-called hematomas) should be reported to the doctor immediately.

Contraindications

Eicosan 750 must not be taken if you are allergic to fish oil rich in omega-3 acids or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.You must not take Eicosan 750 for the following diseases: acute and subacute inflammation of the pancreas, acute pancreatic cell death (acute pancreatic necrosis), acute to chronic liver intoxication, liver shrinkage (liver cirrhosis) of any origin, acute to chronic gallbladder inflammation, gallbladder dilatation (gallbladder empyema), disorder of fat digestion or fat emulsification in theSmall intestine due to disease of the gallbladder and/or pancreas, coagulation disorders.

Warnings and precautions

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Eicosan 750.Regular monitoring of liver function (transaminases) is required in patients with liver disease.Because there is insufficient experience, treatment of children is not recommended.Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Animal studies with fish oil or fish oil concentrates showed no evidence of teratogenic effects.With an intake of omega-3 fatty acids that corresponds to the usual healthy diet, such effects are neither known nor expected.There is currently no experience with pregnancy and breastfeeding with the high doses required to treat hypertriglyceridemia.Medicines should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if deemed necessary.

Storage

Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children.You must not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and blister pack.Do not store above 25ºC.
