Area of application

Dorm is a remedy for problems falling asleep and staying asleep.It is used for the short-term treatment of sleep disorders.The preparation belongs to the group of antihistamines.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in Dorm is diphenhydramine hydrochloride.One tablet contains 50 mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride, which is equivalent to 43.75 mg of diphenhydramine.The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose (E460), sodium carboxymethyl starch type A, sorbitol (E420), talc (E553b), povidone K25 (E1201) and vegetable stearic acid.

Contraindications

Dorm must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients, heart diseases such as coronary heart disease or cardiac arrhythmias, decreased pulse, epilepsy, enlarged prostate with residual urine formation, pheochromocytoma, salt balance disorders such as potassium or magnesium deficiency, angle-closure glaucoma, narrowing of the digestive tract, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive respiratory disease, impaired kidney or liver function, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Children and adolescents under 18 years of age should not use the medicine.

Dosage and application

For adults who wake up at night or have difficulty falling asleep, take 1 tablet with a little liquid 15 to 30 minutes before going to bed.The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.The medicine should not be used for longer than 2 weeks, ideally just a few days.In the case of acute sleep disorders or anxiety, treatment should be limited to single doses.In the case of chronic symptoms, the dose should be gradually reduced and the medication discontinued after two weeks of use.

Side effects

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and heartburn, dry mouth, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, paradoxical reactions such as restlessness, nervousness, agitation, anxiety, tremors and sleep disorders, visual disturbances, increase in intraocular pressure, allergic reactions, increased sensitivity to light of the skin, abnormalities in the ECG, urination disorders, bile stasis with jaundice, changes in theblood count and muscle weakness.

Mode of action

The active ingredient diphenhydramine hydrochloride blocks receptors for the messenger histamine.In this way, it suppresses vasodilatation triggered by histamine and increased blood flow to the smallest hair vessels.It also combats nausea and has a calming and sleep-inducing effect.

Notes

Reactivity may be impaired, particularly in higher doses or in combination with alcohol.Avoid excessive UV-radiation as skin may become more sensitive.Sudden discontinuation may cause problems, so treatment should be stopped slowly.With prolonged use, the body may become accustomed to it and a higher dosage may be necessary.Be careful if you have intolerance to lactose or fructose.There may be medicines with which interactions occur.

Storage

The medicine must be stored protected from moisture.No prescription is required for this product.Keep it out of the reach of children and do not use it after the expiry date stated on the blister strip.

Patient information

Particular caution is required in cases of impaired liver or kidney function, chronic lung diseases or certain stomach dysfunctions.Loss of effectiveness may occur after repeated use.Taking it can lead to physical and psychological dependence.When treatment is stopped, sleep disorders may temporarily recur.After ingestion, you must not drive vehicles or operate dangerous machines.

Pregnancy

The medicine must not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
