What are Ferrum-Hausmann® sustained-release capsules and what are they used for?

Ferrum-Hausmann® prolonged-release capsules are an antianemic, i.e. a remedy against anemia.They are used to treat iron deficiency in adults and children aged 12 and over.No prescription is required for this product.

How should Ferrum-Hausmann® prolonged-release capsules be used?

Always take Ferrum-Hausmann® prolonged-release capsules exactly according to the instructions in the package leaflet.If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.The usual dose for children aged 12 and over and adults is one prolonged-release capsule (100 mg iron) per day.In severe iron deficiency conditions, the dose can be increased to 2-3 capsules daily.The medicine is not suitable for children under 12 years of age as the dosage should be adjusted to body weight.

The prolonged-release capsules are swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of water.It is recommended to take the capsules between meals as food components can reduce the effect.

The duration of treatment depends on the iron metabolism and the normalization of the red blood count.After normalization, therapy should be continued for another 1-2 months to replenish iron reserves.You should not take the medicine for longer than 4 weeks without medical advice.

What Ferrum-Hausmann® sustained-release capsules contain

The active ingredient is iron (II) fumarate in an amount of 304.2 mg, which corresponds to 100 mg of iron (II) ions.The other ingredients are sucrose, corn starch, povidone (K30), shellac, talc, stearic acid, gelatin, sodium dodecyl sulfate, brilliant blue FCF (E133) and titanium dioxide (E171).

How should Ferrum-Hausmann® sustained-release capsules be stored?

Store the medicine out of the reach of children.It should not be stored above 25°C.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton.

Ferrum-Hausmann® sustained-release capsules are used to treat iron deficiency in adults and children aged 12 and over.

Dosage and instructions for use

Adolescents aged 12 and over and adults usually take one capsule daily.In severe iron deficiency conditions, the dose can be increased to 2-3 capsules daily.The capsules should be taken with sufficient liquid.The duration of use should be determined in consultation with a doctor.

Contraindications

Ferrum-Hausmann® sustained-release capsules must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, anemia with iron utilization disorder, hemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia, children under 12 years of age and certain gastrointestinal diseases.Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking it.

Side effects

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea and constipation.In addition, the stool may turn harmless black.
