Bisco-Zitron dragees contain the active ingredient bisacodyl, which belongs to the group of triarylmethanes.This laxative is used for constipation and for diseases that require easier bowel movement.It can also be used to empty the intestines during therapeutic and diagnostic procedures on the intestines.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredient and ingredients

The active ingredient in Bisco-Zitron dragees is bisacodyl.Each tablet contains 5 mg bisacodyl.In addition, one dragee contains around 61 mg lactose (milk sugar) and 23 mg sucrose (sugar).Other ingredients include lactose monohydrate, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, povidone, carboxymethyl starch sodium, talc, magnesium stearate, castor oil, arabic gum, glucose syrup, methacrylic acid-methyl methacrylate copolymer, calcium carbonate, macrogol 6000, macrogol glycerol hydroxystearate, sodium dodecyl sulfate, white clay, montan glycol wax and the dyesE104, E171 and E172.

Areas of application

Bisco lemon dragees are used for constipation.They can also be used to ease bowel movements and soften stools in painful anal conditions or after surgery.They are also used to empty the intestines in preparation for operations and/or examinations.The medicine should only be used if the constipation cannot be resolved by changing your diet.

Dosage and application

The usual dosage for adults and children over 10 years is 1 to 2 tablets once a day in the evening.Children from 2 to 10 years should take 1 tablet once a day.The dragees should be taken whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of water.Ingestion leads to bowel emptying after around 6 to 12 hours.It should only be used for a short time without medical advice.If symptoms persist for a long time, a doctor should be consulted.

Contraindications

Bisco-Zitron dragees must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to bisacodyl or one of the other ingredients, if you have intestinal obstruction, if you have symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or fever, or if you have a rare congenital intolerance to lactose or sucrose.Children under 2 years of age must not use the medicine.The medicine should not be taken if you have illnesses that involve water and mineral salt balance disorders.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Bisco-Zitron can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Common side effects include abdominal pain and diarrhea.Occasionally, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, blood in the stool and discomfort in the rectum may occur.Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions may occur.In rare cases, dizziness or brief loss of consciousness may occur.

Storage

Bisco-Zitron tablets should be stored in a cool, dry place and out of the reach of children.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the packaging.Keep the container tightly closed.The medicine must not be disposed of in wastewater or household waste.Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicine if you no longer need it.
