Active ingredient and composition
Helixor P is an injection solution that contains an extract of fresh pine mistletoe (Viscum album ssp. austriacum) as the active ingredient.The extract is prepared in a ratio of 1:20, with the amount of fresh plant used to make one ampoule being given in milligrams.Water for injections and sodium chloride in a ratio of 99.91:0.09 are used as extractants.One ampoule contains the extract of 5 mg of fresh pine mistletoe.Additionally, the solution contains sodium hydroxide and water for injections.
Areas of application
Helixor P is used in accordance with anthroposophical knowledge of humanity and nature.In adults, this includes the treatment of malignant and benign tumor diseases, malignant diseases of the hematopoietic organs, defined precancerous lesions and the prevention of relapses after tumor operations.The medicine is intended to stimulate form and integration forces to dissolve and reintegrate independent growth processes.
Application and dosage
Helixor P is injected subcutaneously, if possible in the vicinity of the tumor or metastases, otherwise in different locations of the intact skin.The usual dose is 2-3 injections per week.Therapy usually begins with a low dose, which is gradually increased until the optimal individual dose is determined.This dose will then continue to be used in the maintenance phase.The exact dosage and treatment regimen depend on the stage of the disease and the patient's response.
A reduction in dose may be necessary during radiation or chemotherapy.After longer breaks in treatment, the dose should initially be reduced to half as a precaution.The duration of use is determined by the attending physician and depends on the individual condition of the patient.
Side effects and precautions
Possible side effects include a slight increase in body temperature, localized inflammatory reactions around the injection site and temporary mild swelling of regional lymph nodes.If there is a fever over 38 °C or major local reactions over 5 cm in diameter, the next injection should only be given after these symptoms have subsided and in a reduced dose.The fever caused by Helixor P should not be suppressed by fever-reducing medicines.
Helixor P must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to mistletoe preparations, acute inflammatory or high fever diseases, chronic granulomatous diseases and autoimmune diseases with severe symptoms, under immunosuppressive treatment and in cases of hyperthyroidism with palpitations.Overdose may cause excessive inflammatory reactions.In this case, moist, cool compresses or anti-inflammatory ointment dressings can help.
Storage
Helixor P should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be used after the expiry date.The ampoules should be stored in the original packaging to protect the contents from light.Helixor P 5 mg should not be stored above 30 °C.
