Instructions for use of Lacteol capsules

Lacteol capsules contain freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria as an active ingredient.This medicine is used for the symptomatic treatment of diarrheal diseases that cannot be traced back to organic causes.No prescription is required for this product.

What is Lacteol capsules and what is it used for?

Lacteol capsules are a gastrointestinal remedy that is used to relieve diarrhea that is not of organic origin.The active ingredient consists of freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria that have been inactivated in their culture medium.One hard capsule contains 10 x 10⁹ Lactobacillus, especially Lactobacillus fermentum and Lactobacillus delbrueckii.

What do you need to consider before taking Lacteol capsules?

Lacteol capsules must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients.Particular caution is required in the case of acute diarrhea with a high fever.In such cases, a doctor should be consulted no later than the third day.Adequate fluid intake is important and the extent and route of administration must be adjusted according to the severity of the diarrhea, the age and the patient's condition.

Infants and children should not take Lacteol capsules without a medical examination and prescription.The treatment does not replace necessary rehydration therapy.For small children under 2 years of age, care must be taken to ensure that salt and water losses are adequately compensated.Older people should not neglect rehydration therapy either.

Interactions with other medicines are not yet known.Lacteol capsules should not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding as there is no sufficient experience to date.No special precautions are required when driving or using machines.

Lacteol capsules contain lactose.If you know that you have an intolerance to certain sugars, please only take this medicine after consulting your doctor.

How to take Lacteol capsules?

Always take Lacteol capsules exactly according to the instructions in the package leaflet.The usual dose for adults and children is one hard capsule twice daily.For acute diarrhea, one hard capsule is taken three times a day on the first day, then one hard capsule twice a day.It can be taken with or without meals.

After the symptoms have subsided, treatment should be continued for another two days.If the therapy is not successful, you should see your doctor by the third day at the latest.If you have taken more than you should, please notify your doctor.Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.

What side effects are possible?

So far, no side effects have been reported.Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any side effects.

How should Lacteol capsules be stored?

Keep Lacteol capsules out of the reach of children and do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.Keep the capsules in the original packaging to protect them from moisture and do not store them above 25°C.

In addition to the active ingredients, Lacteol capsules also contain the following other ingredients: calcium carbonate, highly disperse silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, lactose, talc, magnesium stearate, gelatin and titanium dioxide.The capsules are cream to yellow and contain a white powder.Lacteol capsules are available in packs of 10 or 30 hard capsules.
