Areas of application
Cefazink 10 mg film-coated tablets are used in cases of proven zinc deficiency and to support therapies with penicillamine and other complexing agents.
Dosage and application
Always take Cefazink 10 mg film-coated tablets exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is 1 - 2 film-coated tablets daily.Take the film-coated tablets with enough liquid and well before meals, as the absorption of zinc into the bloodstream can be impaired by food.
The duration of application depends on needs and the success of the treatment. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Cefazink 10 mg is too strong or too weak.
If you take more Cefazink 10 mg than you should, signs of overdose such as metallic taste on the tongue, headache, diarrhea and vomiting may occur. In this case, stop taking Cefazink 10 mg and ask your doctor for advice.
If you forget to take Cefazink 10 mg, do not take a double dose, but continue taking it as prescribed by your doctor or as described here.

Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Nausea or vomiting may occur when taking Cefazink 10 mg.The frequency cannot be estimated based on the available data.
If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.
Interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. If zinc and iron salts or copper salts are administered at the same time, the absorption of zinc into the bloodstream can be reduced.Zinc can affect the availability of copper. The effectiveness of antibiotics such as tetracycline, ciprofloxacin and quinolones is reduced when taken at the same time as zinc. The administration of complexing agents such as D-penicillamine, dimercaptopropanesulfonic acid (DMPS) or edetic acid (EDTA) can reduce the absorption of zinc or increase its excretion. There should therefore be a gap of at least 2 hours between taking Cefazink 10 mg and taking these preparations.
Take with food and drinks
Foods high in phytins (e.g. grain products, legumes, nuts) reduce zinc absorption. There is evidence that coffee impairs the absorption of zinc.
