Area of application
Agnucaston is a herbal medicine used to relieve menstrual cramps.These include irregular periods, feelings of tension and swelling in the breasts (mastodynia) and symptoms that occur before menstruation begins (premenstrual syndrome, PMS).No prescription is required for this product.
Mode of action
The monk's pepper extracts contained in Agnucaston suppress the release of prolactin, which is a cause of premenstrual symptoms.Chasteberry also helps to restore the balance between estrogen and progesterone.

Agnucaston contains 4 mg chasteberry fruit dry extract (7-11:1) with ethanol 70% (V/V) as extractant.The other ingredients include ammonium methacrylate copolymer (type A), iron (III) oxide (E 172), indigo carmine (E132) aluminum salt, potato starch, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (vegetable), macrogol 6000, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone (30), colloidal silicon dioxide, talc and titanium dioxide (E 171).
Contraindications
Agnucaston should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, breast tumors, tumors of the pituitary gland and in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, a doctor should be consulted before taking.
Dosage
Adults take 1 film-coated tablet of Agnucaston daily, unchewed and with sufficient liquid.It should be taken over at least three monthly cycles.A dosage prescribed by your doctor may differ from this information.
Intake
Please take the film-coated tablets whole with sufficient liquid (e.g. a glass of water).
Patient information
Patients with estrogen-sensitive tumors should only take Agnucaston after consulting their doctor.The same applies to simultaneous intake with dopamine agonists, dopamine antagonists, estrogens or anti-estrogens.If symptoms worsen, a doctor should be consulted.Patients with a history of pituitary disorders should consult a doctor before taking it.
Pregnancy
Agnucaston should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.Please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant.
Notes
If you experience tension or swelling in your breasts or have menstrual problems, you should first consult a doctor.Agnucaston contains lactose and is gluten-free.Diabetics should consider the sugar content.
