Instructions for use for Iodide 100 tablets, 100 pcs
Area of application
Iodide is an essential trace element that is necessary for the production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function. It is primarily consumed through food, with high concentrations found in fish, seafood and dairy products.Inadequate iodine supply can lead to reduced production of thyroid hormones and the development of goiter, even in the unborn child. The active ingredient potassium iodide in these tablets can compensate for such a deficiency.
The medicine is used to prevent goiter if there is insufficient iodine intake from food, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding, to prevent re-growth of goiter after completion of goiter treatment or after goiter surgery, and to treat iodine deficiency goiter in newborns, children and adolescents.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
Each tablet contains 130.8 micrograms of potassium iodide, which is equivalent to 100 micrograms of iodide ions. The preparation also contains the following excipients: cellulose powder, microcrystalline cellulose, 84 milligrams of lactose-1-water, magnesium stearate, corn starch and highly disperse silicon dioxide.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be taken if the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, if there are certain nodules or areas in the thyroid gland that produce thyroid hormone uncontrollably, or if there is an allergy to iodide or any of the other ingredients of the medicine. If you are unsure, you should speak to a doctor.
Dosage
Iodide should always be taken exactly after consulting a doctor or pharmacist. The daily dosage depends on the dietary iodine supply and the reason for use.General guidelines are:
To prevent iodine deficiency goiter if the iodine supply is inadequate: 50 to 100 micrograms of iodide per day for infants and children, 100 to 200 micrograms of iodide per day for adolescents and adults and 100 to 200 micrograms of iodide per day for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
To prevent goiter regrowth after completion of goiter treatment or after goiter surgery: 100 to 200 micrograms of iodide per day.
For the treatment of iodine deficiency goiter in newborns, children and adolescents: 100 to 200 micrograms of iodide per day for newborns and children, 200 micrograms of iodide per day for adolescents.
The duration of treatment may vary.Long-term or lifelong use is often required to prevent goiter growth.2 to 4 weeks are usually sufficient to treat goiter in newborns, and 6 to 12 months or longer are often sufficient for children, adolescents and adults.
In the event of an overdose, a doctor should be contacted immediately.Missed doses should not be compensated for by a double dose.
Intake
The medicine is intended to be taken orally. The daily dose should be taken after a meal with some liquid, such as half a glass of water.
Patient information
You should speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking it.Particular caution is required if you have previously had an overactive thyroid or goiter. For an enlarged thyroid with nodules or hot nodules, the daily dose of iodide should not exceed 150 micrograms. The doctor should be informed before an examination or therapy with radioiodine, as iodide can influence the effect of radioiodine.
Iodide has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
Pregnancy
Iodide should be continued during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The doctor will recommend the dose depending on the iodine intake from food.An additional dose of iodine for the baby is not necessary if the mother takes iodide and is fully breastfeeding.Care should be taken not to take more than the recommended dose, as very high doses of iodide can damage the thyroid gland of the unborn or newborn child.
Notes
No prescription is required for this product.
Before using iodine and preparations containing iodine, it should be checked whether there is an overactive thyroid or a nodular goiter. The administration of iodine or medications containing iodine can make planned treatment of hyperthyroidism, hormone-producing thyroid tumors and malignant thyroid tumors impossible. If a malignant thyroid tumor is suspected, iodine administration should be avoided.High doses of iodine can influence the thyroid test and lead to errors.
