Iodide-ratiopharm® 100 μg tablets: for the treatment and prevention of iodine deficiency and certain thyroid diseases (e.g. goiter)

Iodide-ratiopharm® 100 μg tablets are a means of supporting iodine supply and preventing and treating iodine deficiency and certain thyroid diseases such as goiter.Iodine is an essential trace element that is necessary for the formation of iodine-containing thyroid hormones.These hormones are important for normal growth and healthy physical development.A deficiency of these hormones can lead to an enlargement of the thyroid gland and thus the formation of a goiter.The tablets can help prevent or compensate for iodine deficiency and thus also prevent or treat thyroid diseases.

The German Society for Nutrition e.V. recommends 80 μg of iodine per day for infants and 90 μg for children up to 6 years of age.Children aged 7 to 12 years need 120 μg of iodine and adolescents aged 13 and over and adults need 150 μg daily.The dosage should be adjusted individually, for example in acute goiter therapy a higher dosage of 100 to 500 μg may be required.The need for iodine increases during pregnancy because adequate iodine intake is important for the baby's healthy development.The tablets are small, easy to swallow and divisible, making them easier to take and dose.They are suitable for daily use and for the whole family.The tablets do not contain gluten.

Area of application

Iodide-ratiopharm® 100 μg tablets are used to prevent iodine deficiency and to treat goiter in newborns, children, adolescents and younger adults.The preparation can help prevent iodine deficiency, for example to prevent goiter in iodine-deficient areas or after removal of an iodine-deficient goiter.It is also used to treat goiter (diffuse euthyroid goiter) in newborns, children, adolescents, and younger adults.

Each tablet contains 131 μg of potassium iodide, which corresponds to 100 μg of iodide ion.Potato starch, lactose-1-water, magnesium stearate, corn starch and highly disperse silicon dioxide are included as excipients.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to potassium iodide or any of the other ingredients.The preparation should also not be used in cases of manifest hyperthyroidism or latent hyperthyroidism at a dosage of more than 150 μg iodine/day.In the case of a benign, hormone-producing tumor or uncontrolled hormone-producing areas of the thyroid, the preparation must not be taken in a dosage of 300 - 1000 μg/day, except for preoperative treatment.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose for goiter prevention in the case of iodine deficiency for infants and children is ½ - 1 tablet (corresponding to 50 - 100 μg iodine) once a day.Adolescents and adults should take 1 - 2 tablets (corresponding to 100 - 200 μg iodine) once a day.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, a dose of 2 tablets (corresponding to 200 μg iodine) once daily is recommended.

To prevent re-growth of goiter after completion of drug treatment or after surgery for iodine deficiency goiter, a dose of 1 - 2 tablets (corresponding to 100 - 200 μg iodine) once daily is recommended.To treat iodine deficiency goiter in newborns, children and adolescents, a dose of 1 - 2 tablets (corresponding to 100 - 200 μg iodine) once daily is recommended.Younger adults should take 3 - 5 tablets (corresponding to 300 - 500 μg of iodine) daily.The preventative administration of the preparation generally has to take place over a period of years, often for life.To treat goiter in newborns, 2 - 4 weeks are usually sufficient; for children, adolescents and adults, 6 - 12 months or more are usually required.

The treating doctor decides on the duration of use.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.If you have taken more than you should, please contact your doctor immediately.If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose.The next day, take the usual prescribed amount.If you interrupt or stop taking the product prematurely, please contact your doctor. Intake

Take the medicine after a meal with sufficient liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water).

Patient information

There is no evidence that the preparation limits the ability to drive or work with machines or work without a secure footing.

Pregnancy

There is an increased need for iodine during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so adequate iodine intake is particularly important.However, iodine and preparations containing iodine should only be taken after weighing up the benefits and risks if expressly prescribed by the doctor.
