Summary: Package leaflet for article NATRIUMHYDROGENCARB 8.4%: - Each 20 ml ampoule contains 1.68 g sodium hydrogen carbonate and edetic acid, disodium salt 2 H20 and water for injection. - It is a base infusion used for the treatment of metabolic acidosis and for alkalinisation in barbiturate and salicylate poisoning. - It is contraindicated in alkalosis, hypernatremia and hypokalaemia. - The use of calcium- and magnesium-containing solutions and phosphate-containing solutions together with the infusion solution should be avoided. - The recommended dosage is a maximum of 25 drops per minute (equivalent to a maximum of 1 ampoule in 16 minutes) and a maximum of 100 ml per day (equivalent to 5 ampoules), taking into account the acid-base balance. - In case of paravenous application, there is a risk of necrosis. Controls of the acid-base balance and the serum ionogram are required. Caution in hypokalaemia. Overdose may lead to hypocalcaemic tetany. - Alkaline infusion therapy can be used in various clinical pictures due to its high regulative, pain therapeutic and anti-inflammatory potency.
