Instructions for use for Siccaprotect eye drops, 10 ml
Information
Siccaprotect® eye drops are a tear substitute that is used locally on the eye.The active ingredients dexpanthenol and polyvinyl alcohol help in the symptomatic treatment of drying out of the cornea and conjunctiva. These can be caused by tear secretion disorders due to local or systemic underlying diseases, inadequate eyelid closure or wearing hard contact lenses. No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
Siccaprotect® eye drops contain 30 mg dexpanthenol and 14 mg polyvinyl alcohol. In addition, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium monohydrogen phosphate, purified water and benzalkonium chloride are included as excipients.
Area of application
Siccaprotect® eye drops are used for the symptomatic treatment of drying out of the cornea and conjunctiva. These can be caused by tear secretion disorders due to local or systemic underlying diseases, inadequate eyelid closure or wearing hard contact lenses. They are also used for re-wetting while wearing hard contact lenses.
Dosage
Always use Siccaprotect® eye drops exactly as described or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is one drop into the conjunctival sac up to 6 times a day.Distribute the applications evenly throughout the day.If you are unsure about the effect of the medicine, please speak to your doctor or pharmacist. The use in children and adolescents has not yet been investigated.
The exact duration of treatment depends on the individual clinical picture and is determined by the doctor. In general, treatment with tear substitutes is a long-term therapy. In the event of an overdose, no special measures are required.Continue treatment at the usual dose.If you forget to use it, do it as quickly as possible and then continue dosing as usual. If you stop using the medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Intake
Drip the eye drops into the conjunctival sac.Avoid contact of the dropper tip with your eyes or facial skin.Tilt your head back slightly, pull the lower eyelid slightly away from the eye and place a drop into the conjunctival sac by gently pressing the bottle.Slowly close your eyelids. After use, the bottle should be carefully closed again.
Patient information
You must not drive a vehicle or operate machines immediately after using Siccaprotect® eye drops, as the medicine can temporarily and briefly affect visual acuity.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Notes
For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacy.
Other
Avoid contact of the dropper with eye or facial skin. The eye drops must not be used while wearing soft contact lenses. These should be removed before each drip and only reinserted after 15 minutes. In severe cases and if local irritation persists for a long time, especially in hard contact lens wearers, regular ophthalmological check-ups are necessary.
Important protection: the tear film
The tear film on the surface of our eyes is a complex structure. It consists of a thin external layer of fat that prevents the tears from evaporating too quickly.Below this lies the actual watery tear layer, which has an important function in supplying the cells on the surface of the eye with oxygen and nutrients. The innermost layer of the tear film is formed by a layer of mucus - the so-called mucin layer - which adheres well to the cells of the cornea and conjunctiva of the eye.
If the tear film is disturbed
If the composition of the tear fluid is disturbed or if the tear glands do not produce enough of this necessary fluid, the tear film will rupture. The result is that the cells of the eye in this area are no longer supplied with oxygen and nutrients. Those affected feel this in the form of itching or burning in the eyes and even a foreign body sensation, often associated with sometimes severe pain.In advanced stages, injuries to the cornea and conjunctiva can occur.
Siccaprotect® - the inexpensive combination of moistening and care
Siccaprotect® eye drops contain the ingredient polyvinyl alcohol, which increases the viscosity of the drip solution.Due to the slightly increased viscosity of the eye drops, they remain on the surface of the eye longer and thus guarantee long-lasting and intensive moisturization. The additional dexpanthenol contained in Siccaprotect® causes the faster regeneration of injured corneal and conjunctival tissue and thus contributes to accelerating the healing of irritated eyes.
