China oil is a traditional herbal medicine for the relief of symptoms of coughs, colds, muscle aches and mild gastrointestinal complaints. It contains peppermint oil and can be applied externally, inhaled or taken internally. It should not be used in children under 12 years of age and in certain conditions such as liver disease or allergies to peppermint oil. Side effects may occur, such as skin irritation, eye irritation, change in urine colour and gastrointestinal discomfort. Dosage and use should be according to the package leaflet or as directed by a doctor. The duration of use should not exceed two weeks. In case of overdose, a doctor should be contacted immediately. Pregnant women, nursing mothers and adolescents should seek medical advice before use. The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and the expiry date should be observed.
