Using the irrigator

The irrigator is used to introduce fluids into the intestines to stimulate peristalsis and thus promote emptying of the intestines.The fluid is administered using an irrigator designed as a container or folding bag.This is hung elevated, which creates a slope and allows the liquid to flow through the tube into the rectum.Many patients rely on an assistant because it is often not possible to carry out the procedure themselves.

Büttner-Frank irrigators consist of a plastic container with a hose connection, a connecting hose and a valve with a cannula.Both an enema attachment and a mother tube for vaginal irrigation can be attached to the valve.

Product features

The travel irrigator consists of an irrigator bag, a threaded irrigator tube and tap, an enema tube and a threaded mother tube suitable for vaginal irrigation.Make sure that you have received all of the components mentioned and that they are in perfect condition.Before using for the first time, check whether the two pipes supplied can be screwed tightly to the tap.Make sure the tubing on the irrigator bag sits straight.Before first use, clean the travel irrigator with hot water.

Using the travel irrigator

Close the tap and fill the irrigator bag with lukewarm tap water.Additives such as chamomile tea are only necessary for inflammatory bowel disease.Deflate the irrigator hose by opening the stopcock until fluid flows out.Rub the anus and/or tip of the enema cannula with petroleum jelly or a suitable cream.While lying on your left, slowly insert the enema tube into the anus and carefully push it forward.Raise the travel irrigator until the water level is approximately 30-50 cm above the top of the enema tube.If pain occurs, lower the travel irrigator slightly to slow down the enema speed.

Avoid mistakes

Avoid applying too little ointment or appropriate cream to the tip of the enema cannula.Do not forcefully overcome any resistance when inserting.Do not place the intestinal tube only in the rectum area and do not allow the liquid to flow in too quickly.

When used correctly, the enema is a soothing and relieving method to detoxify the body.Chronic constipation should only be treated with an enema occasionally.Changes in diet and exercise promote regular bowel movements.

Contraindications

The travel irrigator should not be used in cases of ileus (intestinal obstruction), pregnancy, anal fissures, hemorrhoids or intestinal bleeding.Do not use the travel irrigator if the individual components cannot be assembled as described above.An irrigator is used to direct liquids into the intestines or vagina under different pressure conditions using a hose and irrigator set.You can change the pressure by raising (strong pressure) or lowering (low pressure) the irrigator bag.Only use the irrigator if you can rule out intestinal diseases or other diseases for which the use of an irrigator could be detrimental.In any case, consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.This will also give you information about the liquids that can be used.
