Directions for use of the article Verrucid solution Important information (compulsory information): Verrucid 10 % solution. Active substance: salicylic acid. Indications: External use on the skin as a peeling agent for cornification disorders caused by warts and for corns and horny calluses. For risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist. USE INFORMATION: INFORMATION FÜR DEN ANWENDER Verrucid 10 % solution, for use in children and adults Active ingredient: salicylic acid 1. WAS IST VERRUCID UND WOFÜR WIRD ES USED? Verrucid is a 10 % solution of salicylic acid in an organic solvent mixture which is used externally on the skin as a peeling agent for cornification disorders caused by warts and for corns and horny calluses. 2. WAS MÜSSEN SIE VOR DER ANWENDUNG VON VERRUCID NOTE? Verrucid must not be used - in case of hypersensitivity to salicylic acid, salicylates or other components of the medicinal product. - Verrucid should not be used in infants and in patients with renal insufficiency. - Verrucid must not come into contact with mucous membranes, especially avoid contact with the eyes. Special caution is required when applying Verrucid near inflammations and wounds. If eyes and mucous membranes have come into contact with Verrucid, they should be rinsed with water. When using Verrucid with other medicines: Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using or have recently taken/used any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Salicylic acid may increase the penetration of other locally applied medicines into the skin. Salicylic acid absorbed into the bloodstream may increase harmful effects of methotrexate and increase the blood sugar-lowering effect of sulphonylureas. When Verrucid is used with food and drink: You should not eat or drink at the same time as using Verrucid. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine. Verrucid should not be used during pregnancy except on an area smaller than 5 cm2. It should also not be used on the breasts of nursing mothers. Ability to drive and operate machinery: No impairment. 3 WIE IST VERRUCID HOW TO USE? Always use Verrucid exactly as directed in this leaflet. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not quite sure. Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is: Verrucid is applied to the skin areas to be treated twice a day. The solution is applied to warts, corns and calluses with the brush attached to the bottle cap. Verrucid is to be applied daily. Before each new application of Verrucid, the existing pyroxylin film should be removed. Verrucid only works externally and must not be ingested. When applying Verrucid, make sure that the solution does not flow onto healthy skin. After successful therapy, treatment should be continued for 1 week. The average duration of use is 6 weeks. Experience in children is limited. For safety reasons, the maximum daily dose of 1 ml of solution should therefore not be exceeded and the total duration of use should be limited to a maximum of 6 weeks. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you think that the effect of Verrucid is too strong or too weak. If you have used a larger amount of Verrucid than you should: As a countermeasure, it is recommended to immediately rinse away the excess applied medicine with warm water. If you forget to apply Verrucid: Do not apply a double dose, but continue treatment as directed. If you stop using Verrucid: If the medicine is stopped prematurely, the cornification disorder may persist. If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. 4. WELCHE NEBENWIRKUNGEN SIND POSSIBLE? Like all medicines, Verrucid can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The frequency of side effects is based on the following categories: Very common: more than 1 in 10. Frequently: 1 to 10 people in 100 Occasionally: 1 to 10 people in 1 000 Rare: 1 to 10 people in 10 000 Very rare: less than 1 affected person in 10 000 Not known: Frequency cannot be estimated based on available data. Significant side effects or signs to look out for and action if you are affected: If you are affected by any of the side effects listed below, stop taking Verrucid and see your doctor as soon as possible. After application, there may be occasional local irritation, usually mild burning, and in isolated cases contact allergy. Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet. 5. HOW TO STORE WIE IST VERRUCID ? Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and on the label of the bottle after "use by". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month. Storage conditions: The bottle should always be kept tightly closed. The solvent is highly volatile and flammable. Information about storage life after opening or preparation: After opening the container, the medicinal product is generally stable for 6 weeks if used as directed. You should not use Verrucid if the volatile solvent has largely evaporated by leaving the bottle open. Do not dispose of the medicine in sewage or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you no longer need it. This will help to protect the environment. 6 WEITERE INFORMATIONEN What Verrucid contains: The active substance is salicylic acid. The other ingredients are: Acetic acid 99%, docusate sodium, castor oil, pyroxylin, ethanol 96%, acetone, isobutyl acetate. What Verrucid looks like and contents of the pack: Verrucid is a colourless to pale yellow solution with a pungent odour of acetic acid. One pack contains one bottle of 10 ml solution. Fields of application: - Corns - Warts (common), appearing on hands and feet - Calluses Dosage and directions for use: Children from 1 year and adults a sufficient amount 2 times a day spread over the day The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist. Method of use: Apply the medicine to the affected skin area(s). Allow the medicine to dry briefly. Protect the surrounding skin with a greasy ointment or paste. Before applying again, remove the film of solution - either by carefully peeling it off or by a warm soap bath. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice on use. Avoid accidental contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Duration of use: The duration of use depends on the type of symptoms and/or the course of the disease. General duration of treatment: 6 weeks. The application should be continued for 1 week after the symptoms have been relieved. In children, the total duration of treatment should not exceed 6 weeks. Overdosage: If the medicinal product is used as described, no overdosage symptoms are known. In case of accidental swallowing of larger quantities, contact a doctor immediately. In general: Pay attention to a conscientious dosage, especially with infants, small children and elderly people.
