Description of the preparation

This preparation is a vitamin B12 preparation that contains the active ingredient cyanocobalamin.Cyanocobalamin belongs to the group of substances collectively known as vitamin B12.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

The preparation is used for a vitamin B12 deficiency that cannot be compensated for through diet.Such a deficiency can manifest itself in various clinical pictures, including hyperchromic macrocytic megaloblastic anemia, also known as perniciosa, Biermer anemia or Addison's anemia.These diseases are characterized by a disruption in the maturation of red blood cells.In addition, a vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to spinal funicular disease, in which the spinal cord is damaged.

A vitamin B12 deficiency confirmed by laboratory diagnosis can occur after years of malnutrition and malnutrition, for example due to a strict vegetarian diet. Malabsorption, i.e. insufficient absorption of vitamin B12 in the intestine, can also lead to a deficiency.This can be caused by insufficient production of intrinsic factor, a protein produced in the stomach lining that is needed to absorb vitamin B12.Other causes can be diseases in the end section of the ileum, such as sprue, fish tapeworm infestation or blind-loop syndrome, which can occur after stomach surgery.Congenital vitamin B12 transport disorders can also lead to a deficiency.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The preparation contains 1 mg cyanocobalamin as an active ingredient.Excipients include sodium chloride, water for injections and a total of 23 mg sodium ions.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to cyanocobalamin or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.

Dosage

Always use the medicine exactly as directed.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.At the start of treatment, 1 ml (1 ampoule) is administered once or twice a week in the first two weeks after diagnosis, corresponding to 1000 - 2000 µg cyanocobalamin per week.If a vitamin B12 absorption disorder in the intestine is proven, 100 µg cyanocobalamin is then administered once a month.

The medicine is intended for long-term use.Please consult your doctor about this.Poisoning or overdose symptoms are not known.A double dose should not be used if the previous dose has been forgotten.If you interrupt the treatment, you endanger the success of the treatment!If you experience unpleasant side effects, please talk to your doctor about further treatment.

Intake

The medicine is usually administered intramuscularly, i.e. injected into a muscle.It can also be given slowly intravenously or subcutaneously, i.e. injected into a vein or under the skin.

Notes

Because of the instability of vitamin B12, adding other substances can cause the vitamin to lose its effectiveness.
