Areas of application

This preparation is used to treat a vitamin B12 deficiency that cannot be compensated for through diet.Such a deficiency can manifest itself in various clinical pictures, including hyperchromic macrocytic megaloblastic anemia, also known as perniciosa, Biermer anemia or Addison's anemia.These diseases are characterized by disruptions in the maturation of red blood cells.In addition, a vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to spinal funicular disease, in which the spinal cord is damaged.

A laboratory-confirmed vitamin B12 deficiency can occur under various conditions, such as years of malnutrition and malnutrition caused by a strict vegetarian diet.Malabsorption, i.e. insufficient absorption of vitamin B12 in the intestine, can also lead to a deficiency.This can be caused by insufficient production of intrinsic factor, a protein produced in the stomach lining that is needed to absorb vitamin B12.Diseases in the terminal section of the ileum, such as sprue, fish tapeworm infestation or blind loop syndrome, which can occur after gastric surgery, can also lead to malabsorption.In addition, congenital vitamin B12 transport disorders can cause a deficiency.

Active ingredients and ingredients

This preparation contains 3 mg of cyanocobalamin as the active ingredient.In addition, it contains the excipients ammonium sulfate, sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid 25% and water for injections.

Contraindications

The preparation must not be used if you are intolerant to any of the ingredients.No prescription is required for this product.

Dosage

The following information applies unless your doctor has prescribed the medicine for you otherwise.At the start of treatment, 1 ml of the preparation is administered twice a week in the first few weeks after diagnosis, which corresponds to 1500 µg cyanocobalamin each time.The remainder of the ampoule should be discarded.If a vitamin B12 absorption disorder in the intestine is proven, 100 µg cyanocobalamin is then administered once a month.

Intake

Pregnancy

The recommended daily vitamin B12 intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding is 4 µg.According to previous experience, higher application doses have no adverse effects on the unborn child.Vitamin B12 is excreted in breast milk.
