Information for use with the article Nicorette Nicotine Patch, 10 mg Nicotine: - Nicorette TX Patches 10 mg is a tobacco cessation product used to treat tobacco dependence by relieving withdrawal symptoms. - The patches are available in three different dose strengths: 25 mg, 15 mg and 10 mg. The dosage is based on the smoker's tobacco dependence. - The patches can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other Nicorette dosage forms, such as chewing gum, lozenges, spray or inhaler. - For heavily tobacco dependent smokers (more than 20 cigarettes per day) the recommended dosage is: phase 1 - 8 weeks with 25 mg patches, phase 2 - 2 weeks with 15 mg patches and phase 3 - 2 weeks with 10 mg patches. - For less heavily tobacco dependent smokers (up to and including 20 cigarettes per day), the recommended dosage is: phase 2 - 8 weeks with 15 mg patch and phase 3 - 4 weeks with 10 mg patch. - In combination therapy with other Nicorette dosage forms, the dosage depends on the individual smoker's tobacco dependence. The maximum recommended daily dose is 64 mg in total. - The patch is applied daily in the morning to a clean, dry and hairless area of skin on the upper body, upper arm or hip. It should remain on the skin for 16 hours and be removed before going to bed. - The recommended duration of treatment is 12 weeks, but it is not recommended to use Nicorette for longer than 6 months. Use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age should only be done after consulting a doctor. - Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness and sleep disturbances may occur. Overdose can lead to serious symptoms such as a drop in blood pressure and difficulty breathing. - Nicorette patches should be kept out of the reach of children and disposed of safely after use. - The leaflet should be read carefully before use and the doctor or pharmacist consulted if there are any questions or uncertainties. - The information may differ from the package leaflet, so the medicine should be used according to the doctor's or pharmacist's instructions. - An overdose may occur in non-smokers or smokers who smoked very few cigarettes before being treated with Nicorette. Symptoms of an overdose are nausea, vomiting, sweating, headache, dizziness and drop in blood pressure. - If symptoms of poisoning occur, nicotine intake should be stopped immediately and a doctor contacted. - If application is forgotten, do not apply double the amount of the patch.
