The patch is applied to a healthy, hairless, dry and clean area of skin such as the upper arm daily after getting up and left on the skin for 24 hours. The nicotine-containing patches are available in different strengths of active ingredient: 21 mg, 14 mg and 7 mg. The dosage depends on the individual smoking habits. The patch is gradually reduced over a period of 9-12 weeks to gently wean the body off nicotine and minimise withdrawal symptoms. If necessary, the patch strength can be adjusted. For smokers with moderate to severe dependence, a combination therapy with the patch and Nicotinell chewing gum 2 mg or lozenges 1 mg is recommended. The dosage and duration of use are determined individually. The patch is not waterproof, but can be left in place when showering. It should be removed for sauna use.
