Instructions for use of the article Epsom Salt Caelo Hv Pack Important information (obligatory data): Epsom salt. Active substance: magnesium sulphate 7 H2O. USE INFORMATION: INFORMATION FÜR DEN ANWENDER Epsom salt magnesium sulphate 7H2O. Composition: 100 g Caelo Epsom Salt: Magnesium sulphate 7H2O 100 g as crystalline powder. Substance or indication group: Saline laxative. Dosage form and method of administration: Powder for drinking after dissolving in water. Indications: For short-term use in constipation. For bowel evacuation prior to diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Contraindications: Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate must not be used in cases of intestinal obstruction and impaired kidney function. It should not be used in inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases and disorders of water and electrolyte balance. Pregnancy and lactation: Harmful effects of magnesium sulphate during pregnancy and breast-feeding are not known. Dosage instructions and method of use: Unless otherwise prescribed, adults drink 2 to 3 teaspoonfuls (10 to 15 g) of magnesium sulphate 7H2O dissolved in about 250 ml of water. For rapid bowel emptying, drink 1 to 2 tablespoonfuls (20 to 30 g) of magnesium sulphate 7H2O dissolved in approx. 500 ml of water. Children over 6 years of age receive half the dose. Duration of use: Magnesium sulphate 7H2O should only be used for a short time. Longer-term use leads to an increase in intestinal sluggishness. Overdosage: Overdosage of magnesium sulphate 7H2O may lead to dehydration with electrolyte disturbances and magnesium poisoning. Therapy has to be based on the symptoms. Advice: Do not store above 25°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date. Interactions with other medicinal products: Magnesium sulphate 7H2O may form complexes with tetracyclines which are difficult to absorb, so that only an insufficient level of active substance is achieved. Sensitivity to cardiac glycosides may be increased due to increased potassium loss. Potassium loss may be increased with concomitant use of diuretics. Side effects: In the case of very high doses or chronic use, magnesium poisoning may occur - especially in the case of impaired kidney function - which is characterised by central nervous disorders, muscle weakness, reflex failures, fatigue, partial paralysis, coma as well as cardiac arrhythmia. As INFORMATION FÜR DEN ANWENDER with other laxatives, prolonged use may result in increased losses of water, potassium and other salts. This may lead to disturbances in heart function and muscle weakness, especially if diuretics and adrenal cortical steroids are taken at the same time.
