Microlax is a laxative used for short-term use in constipation and in conditions requiring easier defecation. It can also be used for bowel evacuation before diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in the rectal area. Microlax contains the active ingredients sodium citrate, dodecyl(sulfoacetate), sodium salt 70% and sorbitol solution 70% (crystallising). It is used in the form of a disposable enema and should be applied about 5 to 20 minutes before the desired effect. A mini enema is recommended for adults and children 3 years and older, while infants and children under 3 years of age should receive half a mini enema. Use should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist. Microlax is well tolerated and can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Possible side effects include hypersensitivity reactions, abdominal pain, mild burning in the anal area and loose stools.
