Microlax is a laxative used for short-term use in constipation and conditions requiring easier defecation. It can also be used for bowel evacuation before diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in the rectal area. Microlax contains sodium citrate, dodecyl(sulfoacetate), sodium salt 70% and sorbitol solution 70% (crystallising) as active ingredients. It is supplied in the form of disposable enemas, each containing 5 ml of rectal solution. It is applied in the rectum and takes effect within 5 to 20 minutes. The recommended dosage is 1 mini-enema for adults and children and 1/2 mini-enema for infants and young children under 3 years of age. Microlax is well tolerated and can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Possible side effects include hypersensitivity reactions, abdominal pain, mild burning in the anal area and loose stools. Microlax should be protected from heat and stored at a temperature below 25°C. It should only be used for a short time without a doctor's recommendation and is not suitable for weight loss.
