MOVICOL® liquid orange

MOVICOL® liquid orange is a laxative used to treat acute and chronic constipation in adults, adolescents aged 12 and over and older patients.It is not recommended for children under 12 years as there are specific Movicol products for this age group.No prescription is required for this product.

The effect of MOVICOL® liquid orange is based on increasing stool volume and softening the stool in the intestine, which leads to natural stool emptying.This usually happens within 1-2 days.In contrast to herbal laxatives, MOVICOL® does not cause cramps or flatulence because it is not broken down in the intestines.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each 25 ml MOVICOL® liquid orange contains the following active ingredients: 13.125 g macrogol 3350, 0.3507 g sodium chloride, 0.1785 g sodium hydrogen carbonate and 0.0466 g potassium chloride.It also contains purified water, orange flavor and the sweeteners acesulfame potassium (E950) and sucralose (E955).Benzyl alcohol, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E218) and ethyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E214) are included as preservatives.The orange flavor consists of flavorings, flavoring preparations and ethanol (alcohol).

After dilution with 100 ml of water, the following values result per 25 ml: sodium 65 mmol/l, chloride 53 mmol/l, potassium 5.4 mmol/l and hydrogen carbonate 17 mmol/l.

Application and dosage

MOVICOL® liquid orange can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of meals.It is important to drink enough fluids during use as the product does not replace regular fluid intake.

To treat constipation, MOVICOL® Liquid Orange is taken 1 to 3 times daily, depending on the severity of the constipation.One dose is equivalent to 25 ml of liquid diluted with 100 ml of water.The solution is prepared by placing 25 ml or 5 teaspoonfuls (of 5 ml each) in a glass, adding 100 ml of water and stirring well until the solution is clear.

The usual treatment period is around 2 weeks.For long-term use or if constipation is caused by an illness or medication, you should speak to a doctor.The effective dose for long-term treatment is usually 1 or 2 doses per day.

Contraindications and patient information

MOVICOL® liquid orange should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.The preparation can be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but you should ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking it.Consultation with a doctor is also recommended if you have liver or kidney disease.

Macrogol has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
