Instructions for use for NARATRIPTAN AL acute 2.5 mg film-coated tablets, 2 pcs

More than a headache: migraines

Migraines are more than just headaches. Those affected suffer from one-sided, pulsating pain, which is often accompanied by nausea, loss of appetite, and sensitivity to light and noise. In some cases, an aura heralds the seizures, which may be accompanied by visual or speech problems, tingling, dizziness or paralysis. The triggers for migraines are varied and range from stress, lack of sleep and hormonal changes to the consumption of certain drinks or foods. The exact causes are not yet fully known.A migraine involves excessive excitation of nerve networks, including the trigeminal nerve, causing dilation and irritation of blood vessels in the brain and ultimately an inflammatory response.

Mode of action of Naratriptan AL acute 2.5 mg film-coated tablets

In contrast to conventional painkillers, triptans such as Naratriptan AL acute 2.5 mg film-coated tablets have a specific effect against the mechanism of migraines. They imitate the properties of the body's own messenger serotonin and lead to a narrowing of the blood vessels in the meninges. At the same time, they block the release of inflammatory proteins and pain impulses.Since triptans work on a neurological level, they only work on migraines and cluster headaches, but not on tension headaches.

Area of application

Naratriptan AL acute 2.5 mg film-coated tablets can be used for the acute treatment of headache phases of migraine attacks. It causes blood vessels to constrict and inhibits the activity of the trigeminal nerve. The onset of action occurs after about an hour, and a maximum effect is reached after two to three hours.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each film-coated tablet contains 2.5 mg naratriptan as naratriptan hydrochloride.Other ingredients with known effects include 174.8 mg lactose and 0.28 mg deoiled phospholipids from soybeans.Other ingredients include microcrystalline cellulose, hyprolose, magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, pregelatinized starch (corn) and colloidal silicon dioxide.

Application recommendation

Naratriptan AL acute 2.5 mg film-coated tablets should be used by adults as early as possible after the onset of the migraine headache. The usual dose is one film-coated tablet. If there is an improvement after the first dose, another tablet can be taken after at least four hours. If there is no improvement after the first dose, the second dose should be avoided for the same attack. The maximum dose in 24 hours is two tablets. The product is not recommended for children under 18 years of age or adults over 65 years of age.No prescription is required for this product.

Be careful with comorbidities

Triptans can effectively relieve migraine symptoms, but are contraindicated in certain comorbidities. These include severe kidney and/or liver disease, hypersensitivity to soy, peanuts or other ingredients, stroke or temporary conditions of reduced blood flow to the brain, heart problems such as narrowing of the coronary arteries, chest pain or heart attack, circulatory problems in the legs and high blood pressure.Anyone suffering from co-morbidities should definitely consult their doctor beforehand. In addition, interactions with other medications should also be discussed with your doctor. If your blood pressure is slightly elevated and well controlled, you can take Naratriptan AL acutely.

Migraines and tension headaches

Distinguishing a migraine from a tension headache is not easy.Migraines are characterized by one-sided pain that becomes stabbing, throbbing or pulsating during physical exertion. If left untreated, migraine attacks in adults last from a few hours to a maximum of three days.A pain diary can help to identify the type of headache and its triggers.Doctors can make a correct diagnosis based on the frequency, duration, type and severity as well as the accompanying symptoms.

Self-help for chronic migraines

1-2 Percent of the population suffers from chronic migraines, with women being affected about three times more often than men.Medicines or minerals such as magnesium can help prevent it.Those affected can also do a lot themselves by reducing stress, learning relaxation techniques, exercising, eating and sleeping regularly, and learning biofeedback for body awareness.Migraines most commonly occur between the ages of 40 and 50.The good news: After that, the frequency usually decreases for men and women.
