Information

CORDES® BPO is a gel used to treat acne vulgaris.It contains the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide in various concentrations: 3%, 5%, and 10%.The product is available without a prescription. CORDES® BPO 3% is particularly suitable for sensitive facial skin and for the start of treatment. CORDES® BPO 5% is suitable for normal facial skin if the 3% gel is insufficient. CORDES® BPO 10% is primarily used on the chest and back, as well as for patients who do not respond to lower concentrations.The gel contains propylene glycol.

Indications

CORDES® BPO is used for various forms of acne vulgaris, particularly on the face, chest, and back, as well as for oily skin, blackheads, and blemished skin.The active ingredient benzoyl peroxide acts against acne bacteria and improves the skin's keratinization disorder through a gentle peeling effect.

Mechanism of action

CORDES® BPO has antibacterial and peeling effects.It effectively combats pimples and blackheads and inhibits the formation of new pimples and pustules.The gel is available without a prescription at pharmacies.

Active ingredients / Ingredients

The main active ingredient is benzoyl peroxide.Other ingredients include carbomer, sodium hydroxide, propylene glycol, and purified water.

Contraindications

The medicinal product must not be used if you are hypersensitive to benzoyl peroxide or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.

Dosage

Always use the product exactly as instructed.The usual dose is application to the skin once or twice daily.Experience shows that the duration of treatment is 4 to 10 weeks.Excessive use may lead to drying out and increased peeling of the skin.Accidental ingestion may cause discomfort in the esophagus and stomach.If you miss an application, continue treatment according to the dosage instructions.

Administration

The product is intended solely for application to the skin.Clean the skin thoroughly before use and apply a thin layer of the gel to the affected areas.

Patient Information

Particular caution is required for patients with atopic eczema.Avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes, and broken skin.Intensive UV-exposure of the treated areas to radiation (e.g., sunlight or UV lamps) should be avoided.Due to its bleaching effect, the product should not be applied to the eyebrows, beard area, or hairline, and must not come into contact with colored fabrics.No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Pregnancy

The product should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding after careful consultation with a doctor.The product should not be used during the last month of pregnancy.It is not known whether benzoyl peroxide passes into breast milk following topical application.

Notes

Treatment should initially be started with lower-strength formulations, provided no skin irritation or other signs of intolerance occur.If weaker formulations do not prove effective, this higher-concentration preparation should be used.Mild skin irritation may occur initially.If these symptoms persist for more than 5 days or worsen, discontinue use of the medication and consult a doctor.
