Legalon® Protect Madaus

Legalon® Protect Madaus is a herbal medicine made from the fruits of milk thistle (Silybum marianum).Milk thistle was already used as a medicinal plant in the Middle Ages.This preparation is used as a supportive treatment for various liver diseases.

Area of application

Legalon® Protect Madaus is used to support the treatment of chronic inflammatory liver diseases, liver cirrhosis and toxic liver damage caused by liver toxins.However, it is not suitable for the treatment of acute poisoning.

Each hard capsule contains 86.5 to 93.3 mg of dry milk thistle fruit extract, corresponding to an extraction ratio of 36-44:1.This extract contains 54.1 mg of silymarin, calculated as silibinin.Ethyl acetate 98% is used as an extractant.In addition, the preparation contains the following excipients: mannitol, poly(O-carboxymethyl) starch, sodium salt, polysorbate 80, povidone, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide E 171, iron (III) oxide E 172, iron(II,III) oxide E 172 and sodium dodecyl sulfate.

Contraindications

The preparation must not be taken if you are known to be hypersensitive to milk thistle fruits, other composite plants or any of the other ingredients.

Dosage

Always take the product exactly as directed.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.The usual dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 and over is two capsules three times daily.The treating doctor decides how long to take the medication.If the symptoms persist despite taking it, you should consult a doctor.

If you have taken more than you should, no signs of poisoning have been observed.In the event of an overdose, the side effects described can occur to an increased extent.If you suspect an overdose, please contact your doctor.A specific antidote is not known.

Intake

The hard capsules should be swallowed whole with a little liquid before eating.

Patient information

Drug therapy does not replace avoiding the causes that damage the liver, such as alcohol.Particular caution is required in the case of jaundice, in which a doctor should be consulted.The medicine should not be used in children under 12 years of age as there are no sufficient studies.

No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.
