Legalon® forte Madaus is a herbal medicine used for liver diseases.It is made from the fruits of milk thistle (Silybum marianum), a medicinal plant that was already used in the Middle Ages.No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

The effect of Legalon® forte Madaus hard capsules is based on the natural active ingredient silymarin, which is obtained from milk thistle fruits.Silymarin supports metabolism and detoxification of the liver.It protects liver cell membranes from toxic substances, acts as an antioxidant and stimulates the regeneration of damaged liver cells.It also has anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Ingredients of Legalon® forte Madaus hard capsules: The active ingredient is milk thistle fruit dry extract.1 hard capsule contains 173.0 - 186.7 mg dry extract from milk thistle fruits (36 - 44: 1) corresponding to 108 mg silymarin (HPLC), corresponding to 140 mg silymarin (DNPH), calculated as silibinin.Extractant: Ethyl acetate 98% (V/V).The other ingredients are: corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, poly(O-carboxymethyl) starch, sodium salt, sodium dodecyl sulfate, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide E 171, iron (III) oxide E 172, iron(II,III) oxide E 172.

Dosage and intake

Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over take 1 hard capsule of Legalon® forte Madaus with liquid 3 times a day.The hard capsules should be taken whole with sufficient liquid before eating.The treating doctor decides how long to take the medication.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, this product should not be used.This product is not indicated for acute poisoning.

Patient information

Drug therapy does not replace avoiding the causes that damage the liver, such as alcohol.Particular caution is required in the event of jaundice, in which case a doctor should be consulted.There are no sufficient studies on use in children under 12 years of age, so the product should not be used at this age.No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.
